The public market has totally changed from my last visit about 3 to 4 years ago. I used to frequent a few times a month back then until I changed jobs. Now it seems uppity and cookie cutter. Not like before when it was great food, low prices, bunch of hole in the walls. The AMC theater is gone and it is difficult to find parking. Wazwan Indian food with great naan is still here across from where it used to be. I didn't recognize any of the former Asian restaurants like a Thai type food I loved. Also I don't think the Mexican place is there any longer. The surrounding area has lots of tall apartments going up so I am sure they will get a large local crowd. Not worth driving there from somewhere else though. It will be next to impossible to find parking once the apartments go up. The decor is the same style you are seeing all the fast food places refurbish to. A drab dark earth tone type colors Taco Bell, McDonald's, and Burger Kings are going to. Sad to see San Francisco Oakland Berkely gentrifying and losing great food places. At least there is still El Camino Real around Lawrence and further East Bay with real mom and pop hole in the walls with great food and low overhead for great prices. But for how long....

This is my first time back in 12 years. I was surprised it still existed. The public market is not as big as it used to be. It got smaller because of the storefronts that were created in place of the food market stalls that used to be there. Those storefronts sit empty now. It used to be a bustling center of food and people. It still is. And the vendors that are there are a little more "high end." The atmosphere and the layout are nice. However, it is not as fun as it was when the Public Market was bigger and more catered to regular people. I'll still give it full marks because it's still around and still a little bit of fun.

Pros: a very nice place with plenty of options for dining: from Mexican to Greek to Korean BBQ to Chinese to Sushi.... There are plenty of tables to dine in (including for little kids), and a dedicated parking lot. Cons: it is a little chaotic to gather food from different vendors, and overall is a little pricey for fast food

It’s been so long since I was last here that I can’t even remember when it was. Maybe once? Twice? A long time ago. It was a drizzly Saturday evening at 6 PM. There weren’t many people yet, but as dinner time approached, people started gathering here and there. We took a quick look around to decide what to eat, but the prices seemed way too high compared to the quality of the food. The food being served didn’t seem to justify the price. A single roll costing over $20 at a food court? That just doesn’t seem right.
