I don’t normally review skate parks. It seems irrelevant due to the fact that no park is identical or similar to another. Each is envisioned to be a specific set up only limited by the architects imagination. Today for the first time I skated the YMCA Encinitas skate park (Magdalena Ecke Family community park). Absolutely amazing park. I will forever return here as long as I’m in San Diego. I have never rode this park before today. However I have grown up seeing this park in magazines and videos. I’ve seen this park all my life. And wished to skate it. And today I finally went and had the time of my life. It’s a very smooth fast and well built park. The staff was unbelievably friendly and very welcoming. As a rollerblade that goes a long way. Multiple times I’d notice the staff out in the park watching and encouraging the riders. Even so much as to help teach and give pointers to those who lack skills or confidence. That gives me hope and makes me want to go back. I’ll gladly pay to skate this...
Read moreFor me, the Ecke YMCA skatepark is the best thing about raising my son in Encinitas. It's not only a great skatepark, but it's also supervised and safe. All of the skate teachers are top notch. I recommend giving several different instructors a try to see who clicks best with your kiddo. My son has sensory processing disorder and skateboarding has been the best activity for him. Vestibular and proprioceptive input are absolutely critical for his health, mental/emotional balance, and well being. I highly recommend skateboarding to any parent of a child with SPD as a part of their "sensory diet". And there's not a better, safer, more fun place where your child could learn how to skate than...
