I am leaving a 1-star review despite the great food due to the utter disrespect this restaurant, and more specifically the manager, shows to the diners. We called the restaurant ahead of time to make sure there was no wait, and once we arrived, not only was there a wait, but there was also a huge party (about 30 people) that were occupying the restaurant and walking around with no masks. These people were clearly done eating, but were just wandering around and congregating around other people’s tables, including the one we were offered to sit at. We informed the server that we would not like to sit at a table surrounded by strangers not wearing masks (literally standing around and talking), and had to stand and wait until the party cleared out for about 25 minutes. We asked the servers to request that the diners from the large party wear masks or return to their table, but were told there is nothing they could do. Once finally seated, we were shocked that other people were being seated at tables less than 4 feet away, clearly not following COVID guidelines, and had to request to move to another table in another section of the restaurant. Upon discussing these issues with a waitress, the manager, who overheard our conversation, came over to us and aggressively insisted that not only were we lying about calling ahead regarding the wait, but also that there was nothing he could do about the large party unless he were a “cop with a gun”. Needless to say, he was extremely rude and did not respect our simple request to dine safely (he didn’t even wear his mask over his nose!). We were not offered anything for this extreme inconvenience. Do not go if you care for COVID safety, and at all costs, avoid...
Read moreI had a horrible experience at Aumm Aumm. We called to make reservations for a party of 6 a few days prior and were told they don't do reservations. We get to the restaurant and we have a party of 5 (1 person was sick). We tell the manager party of 5 and he takes his time schmoozing with other tables while we awkwardly stand by the entrance and the other employees stand looking at us. The manager then puts together one normal sized table (for 2 people) and then another tiny (bar table?) half the size together right by the door, which is clearly not enough room for 5 people. We ask about the three tables of 6 setup (with double the size of where we are about to sit) that are empty and the manager said "Oh those are for reservations". When we told him we called to make reservations and they said no reservations the manager said "Oh you need to talk to me to make reservations". So we are sat at this tiny table while the other 3 tables were empty. Of course one of the tables for 6 was broken up after ten minutes for smaller tables of 2 (so there was no reservation) and the other two tables of 6 sat empty for over an hour and fifteen minutes. Clearly if you are not buddy buddy with the manager you don't really matter to this restaurant. On top of that there is 18% mandatory gratuituty and 4% credit card charge fee. There's plenty of other amazing Italian restaurants in Northern NJ to not have to put up with this nonsense.
That being said our server was very nice and the runners / bussers were kind and attentive. The food was nothing special, pizza was burned and desserts were bland. Will never visit this restaurant again. At these prices to be treated like this is...
Read moreUpdate to my review below. I would like to commend the restaurant for replying to me quickly and handling my issue and a very nice and professional manner. It was either the owner or restaurant manager that reached out to me and immediately offered solution to the tips situation that I described below. I’m very thankful That they reached out and resolved the issue.
Not what it used to be. I’ve been going to Aumm Aumm since they opened the first location in Gutenberg and I have always said the englewood location is just not the same. I have been here a few times and while it’s a very pretty place, the food is just inever as good as Guttenburg and even Guttenberg has been hit or miss over the years. I went last night with my family, not only was the service awful, they already included the tip for a party of five. Our very rude waiter, never even bothered to tell us that the tip was included. My husband paid the check. I only asked him the total and thought the amount seemed kind of high for what we ate. when I looked at the check when I got home, I realized the tip had already been included. So the very rude waiter thinks he is deserving of a 40% tip Never bothering to tell us it was included and he walked away with 84.00 tip on a 200.00 check? In general, the food was not great and definitely not as good as it used to be. It’s such a shame because this truly was one of the more authentic...
