I recently dined at Ohana Hawaiian BBQ and overall, I had a pleasant experience. As others have mentioned, the staff was somewhat helpful, but I found them to be super nice and thoughtful.
One thing that struck me about this restaurant is that it has two sides - one side is more of a sit-down restaurant while the other has a fast food vibe but still provides tables and chairs. It was a bit strange, but it didn't affect my dining experience too much.
One highlight for me was that they had working fountain machines, which is always a plus. The tea was pretty good, and I was also impressed by their teriyaki sauce - it had a great flavor.
Now, onto the food. I couldn't resist trying their Chicken Katsu, and I was not disappointed. It was a generous portion, enough to share with three people. The rice was cooked perfectly, and I even got an extra scoop because I opted out of the macaroni salad (which, by the way, I never really liked even when I lived in Hawaii). I know, I know, it's a personal preference. The Katsu sauce was also excellent, and I enjoyed dipping my chicken slices in it.
As a first-time visitor, I did enjoy the overall experience at Ohana Hawaiian BBQ. I would definitely go back to try something different from their menu. If you happen to be in the area, I recommend stopping by - you won't be disappointed. The casual atmosphere adds to the relaxed...
Read moreOhana's is walking distance from my house. If I were to rate this place relative to other Hawaiian spots in Las Vegas I would say it's better than L&L bbq and doesn't quite reach the standards of Aloha kitchen. I'll review a couple dishes that I get on the regular:
BBQ Beef Bowl: Awesome bang for your buck. At $4.95 you get a fist full portion of teriyaki beef on top of steamed veggies and rice. I have a pretty big appetite and this dish always leaves me satisfied.
Chicken Katsu: The chicken katsu is right on par. They use all white chicken. If you like a little dark meat in your katsu you may get sick off all the white meat. The katsu sauce is just right. Not to different than most places which I like. Really can't go wrong.
BBQ Beef Plate: The bbq beef plate was just okay. BBQ Chicken....good, BBQ Beef....good, Kalbi Beef...not so good. I think what really killed this plate was the Kalbi. How do you make Kalbi wrong?! Well, if you don't marinade it long enough and the Kalbi doesn't taste like, well...Kalib!
So, anyhow, Hawaiian food is like a staple to my diet as well as a great way to maintain my high cholesterol. If you are in the area it's a great place to stop by and pick up food or have dinner with the family. However, It's not really a place you would go out of your way for.
I'm really glad that they are in business serving some go ol...
Read moreI dance hula a couple miles away, and my Hula sista recommended we go here for lunch. The restaurant seems to be split with dine in service, and the other side is take out. Ohana's offers Hawaii inspired dishes, which includes Chinese food.
Food: Salt & Pepper Pork Chop Fried Noodles Pork Soup Dumplings aka Xiao Long Bao Mini Kalua Pig Plate My friends also ordered Cake Noodle Combo Crispy Gau-gee
The salt & pepper pork chop had no taste. Very bland. I took it home and added salt. I enjoyed the Gau-gee with hot mustard. The XLB was ok. It did not have a lot of soup, and it was a bit dry compared to what I've had at other restaurants. Also, there was a mishap with the Kalua Pig plate. When the server brought me the plate, I noticed that it had cabbage. So basically, Kalua Pig Cabbage. No where on the menu did it said Kalua Pig Cabbage. I asked the server about it, and she said that's how they make it unless I tell them. I said sorry, but the menu doesn't give an option, and I ordered Kalua Pig, not Kalua Pig Cabbage. She made it right and changed my plate to Kalua Pig. The highlight was the fried noodles. It was the best dish. It was flavorful and tasted really good. I'd definitely return for that, and I'd like to try...
