Imma uuge, uuge fan of good vietnamese food. I walked into this place with my fingers crossed hoping to prove the 3.5 star reviews wrong.
I ordered the a Pho Tai Nam and some fresh spring rolls.
Now of all the amazing, authentic pho places I've tried in my life, they all have a few things in common. So, I've come to have certain expectations from pho restaurants -there are usually asians working in the kitchen (with the occasional mexican. Check, this place had it. Art from the motherland decorating the walls, maybe a small fountain? Check. Fast and efficient service. Check.
But then I started to notice some small deviations -a few thing this place was lacking. Hmmm... foreshadowing maybe? First, they only offer pho in one size. Odd. No medium size option, no large, no extra large? Next they didn't have those little saucers for the Sriracha and hoisin all stacked up on the table. You know the little things u have to wipe down with a paper napkin before using. (I later found out they can provide one on request). Third, their floors were amazingly non-greasy. Now here's where my eyebrow raised, because any self respecting pho aficionado knows the greasier the floors, the richer the broth... and when it comes to pho the broth is everything.
The pho was bland. The broth was bland. The meat was chewy. Did I mention how bland the broth was? Like super bland. The broth was like warm water with a few pieces of chopped scallion floating in it. I've had instant pho with more flavor. Hell, I've had salt water gargle with more flavor.
Now I hate giving bad reviews, especially to small local businesses. So, I will say that I can whole heartedly recommend this place if: 1) u have high blood pressure and must regulate ur intake of salt (or spice, or flavor of any kind), 2) you just lost your taste buds from the long covid, in which case u can pour a cup of coffee into your pho and it'll still taste the same, or 3) you have never had real pho before and love how "exciting it is to try ORIENTAL food!"
As I said I was really hoping to like this place. I didn't. But, as Andrew Zimmern use to say, "always try it twice". So I'll probably be back to try it again, and I hope it's better. I'd love it give it a better review.
So in summary, I can positively say this place has amazing...
Read moreWe always eat at this place . And today I ordered Seafood Pho which is very pricey. It's okay to pay $14.99 if it's really worth it. But the 3 pieces of squid on it is hard, I can't even chew it, the quail eggs seems like not fully cook yet.. I can't finish a big bowl of Pho , but I don't have a choice because there is only one size. Not even a medium size, which is right for me. And also I ordered spring roll...which we normally order before the Pho. I said spring roll..but I admitted when I show it to the staff that's a different kind of spring roll which is the vegetable one. She didn't even clarify it or correct it , if that's what I want. So my order came and I noticed the sauce is different from the spring roll we always ordered. So we talk to the staff and said that's the sauce for the picture I showed to her. Instead of saying sorry and making us feel satisfied for what we order, she didn't even say that we can change it for you or we will replace it , like what other restaurant doing to their customer. not to ruined our lunch we just ate it. eventhough we don't like it. And just ask for the sauce we always use for the spring roll. Then we have left over roll, because we don't like it. So we ask for to go box for that. And even ask for a sauce for that as well. But they said we have to pay $1.00 for that small sauce. I know it's just a dollar , but for the service that we get and we're not satisfied for what we ate,, they have to charge us for that small sauce?? Other restaurants staff will be apologetic and will do everything to make their customer satisfied and feel welcome. But to be honest we don't feel that on this place. When my husband talk to the Manager about the sauce...I heard some staff laughing . Which is very disappointing. We will not recommend this place because the...
Read moreHIGHLY DISAPPOINTED. My friends and I decided to meet up at Pho Saigon 8 for dinner last night, around 9pm. During the course of our meal, we experienced service that I can only describe as inexcusable. The food tasted good, but throughout the night the staff barely spoke to us, and we left the restaurant feeling horrible. Here's a list of a few of the negatives that I experienced: having to get up from our table to bring my empty cup of water to the front counter and ask for it to be refilled, after waiting more than 15 minutes; the check was brought and dropped at the table without a word, and after waiting for 5 minutes I had to walk into THEIR kitchen so that I could grab a to-go cup for my friend so that we could leave. It was 10:08pm when we got up to leave (8 minutes past their posted hours of operation), and the woman at the front counter didn't acknowledge any of us after we said goodnight. It's not like she wasn't aware and was working behind the counter, she simply chose to ignore us. The restaurant was staffed with over 6 employees in the dining area, and there were only two other tables sat besides ours--but we were made to feel like a burden and were completely unattended. Please don't support behavior like this in a city that prides itself on hospitality. There are lots of other excellent Pho restaurants within minutes of Pho Saigon 8 that will treat you with decency...
