Scratch Bakes: A Cozy and Relaxing Haven on Main Street
Nestled in an older, historic brick building along Ephrata's Main Street, Scratch Bakes is a hidden gem that offers a truly delightful experience. As I walked in, the soothing ambiance welcomed me, making it an ideal spot to unwind and enjoy a leisurely meal.
Atmosphere (4/5): The atmosphere at Scratch Bakes is a testament to relaxation. The soft, calming music created a tranquil backdrop, and the light blue walls and gold ceiling added to the serene vibe. The view of Main Street through the large front windows provided a unique touch, letting patrons enjoy the buzz of the city.
Food (4/5): I savored a breakfast bowl packed with hash browns, eggs, cheese, ham, and cilantro. It was a delightful mix of flavors, and the melted cheese added an extra layer of richness. The coffee was also a highlight, offering a warm and comforting start to the day. The salad was fresh and complemented by the best ranch dressing I've ever tasted.
Service (4/5): The staff at Scratch Bakes were not only pleasant but also attentive, ensuring a delightful dining experience.
Ambiance (3/5): While the cafe offers a variety of seating options, including tables and a coffee table with a couch and comfy chairs, it's worth noting that the couch and chairs showed signs of wear and tear. One chair was wobbly. Nevertheless, the worn furniture did not overshadow the overall pleasant atmosphere.
Community and Conversation (5/5): I was delighted to find that other patrons engaged in pleasant conversations, creating a welcoming sense of community. It's a place where you can easily enjoy your coffee, delectable baked goods, and share stories.
Value and Price (4/5): The prices at Scratch Bakes may appear slightly high, but, considering the exceptional quality of food and service, it's a worthy investment. Inflation has affected costs across the board, making it understandable.
In conclusion, Scratch Bakes on Main Street in Ephrata, PA, is a charming and relaxing cafe. With a delicious menu, pleasing service, and a welcoming community atmosphere, it's an ideal spot for a peaceful and enjoyable meal. The historic setting and view of Main Street add a unique touch to the experience, making it easy to lose track of time while sipping coffee and savoring delightful treats. Read more$3 per cupcake. The cupcakes were just okay-tasting at best, but VERY small. The fondant on the cupcake was cute, but it was not worth the cost overall. Would rather just bake my own cupcakes from scratch, and frost it with my own buttercream icing. The breakfast bowl was a travesty; the "hashbrowns" were those frozen hashbrowns from the store, heated and plopped at the bottom of the bowl, for starters. The eggs were a weird egg patty that might not've even been freshly made, and also heated. The ham was a cheap-tasting packaged diced ham from the store. It has cheese, but honestly, I barely noticed it. My mother had a bagel with cream cheese, which is kinda hard to screw up. However, she also had ordered an iced latte with light ice, which she got warm and with no ice in it. How they managed to screw up even an iced latte is anybody's guess.
The outside has fake decorations of cakes and cake slices, but there's no indication of any cakes being sold here at all. Bit of a misleading entranceway; and speaking of the entranceway, it had old and broken up wooden steps that felt very uncomfortable to climb just to get into the building in the first place. No wheelchair ramp to be seen. To make your order, you have to stand in close proximity to other people at the entrance in a cramped room, with the menu being in the entranceway ON THE WALLS AROUND YOU, then you find a seat for yourself in a separate area. There are also dirty, unlaminated menus inside the seating area. Its very poorly thought out. Oh, and the music was someone's Adele playlist or something? It was the same two artists the whole time we were there.
My mother and I went as a Mother's Day present to my mother, but I ended up apologizing to her for such a terrible present, and buying her something to make it up to her. I don't recommend this place. I'll be trying nearby bakeries for hopefully something better, because my experience here was miserable, and I couldn't get out soon enough.
For a bakery that I thought would be "established" after being in the location for years, it felt like walking into a building that has only been open for a few months in the process of making things look nicer. And apparently, that's how it's supposed to look? I don't get it, and I feel ripped off. Spent over $30 in-person for some of the worst food and service I've seen anywhere. Seek...
Read moreI went went in a grabbed and ice coffee and a cupcake. The cupcake was delicious it wasn't to sweet just right! I tried the peanut butter. But I was definitely thinking twice about getting a cupcakes or anything they had sitting out because there was flies landing all over them. They should be in a fill cover case for that reason keeps bugs and anything else that would be flying I'm the air. I got and ice coffee it was good until I stirred it up there was way to much vanilla flavoring in it. Vanilla is a strong flavoring when using it in syrup form to much and it taste like perfume. The girl that waited on me was friendly and I would go back and try a different flavor coffee. I'd love to eat another peanut butter upcake and try others on the future hopefully they will enclose that case for there sweets put a door on the back side because I wouldn't want my customers to see files flying around and landing all over my products they want. Nit only should the sweets be fully in cased due to bugs and other things but the workers are back there as well a cough or sneeze or and accidental little spitting when talking. So hope fully in the future they see this as a issues as well and...
