It's all about the bread. The owner bakes it fresh throughout the day, so more often than not you'll be getting a just-baked loaf still warm from the oven ready to accept whatever meats, veggies, and/or sauces you've decided upon. Sometimes I'll pop in just for a loaf or two to accompany something I've made, as the ability to make a delicious loaf of plain bread is something that, despite dozens of attempts, I just can't do.
"It's just bread!" You may say, but you're perplexity is misplaced. Good handmade bread--really good bread, with the right amount of air pockets and an excellent crumb--is a gluten-based unicorn. Its existence should garner culinary loyalty to the hands that shaped it.
Alright, that's a bit romanticized, but it's a damn good loaf.
Other than that, I've never had a bad meal here and, while my slice fix is aptly provided elsewhere, this is my go-to place for sandwiches when I'm in town. Prices are super reasonable, more so given the aforementioned freshness...
Read moreYesterday, we met friends at CJ's for lupper. The owner was delightful, chatted and joked with us, (I would return to CJs even if the food hadn't been great because it's clear that she puts her everything into the restaurant but, her family comes first, as indicated from the FB posts of early closings or closings for family events). According to social media posts, they also offer free meals on Thanksgiving. How beautiful is that? Ok-back to the food which was EXCELLENT. Our friends had lunch platters, while we had empanadas, fried chicken, and pizza. The food was prepared perfectly, the portions huge. My empanadas were stuffed full of beef and cheese. The chicken wings were fresh and large, so so tasty. I had some pizza as well and, it too was delish. My goal is to try new things on the menu each time we are in Ephrata. I had enough left from my meal for another meal. CJ's is worth every single star I gave...
Read moreI asked for a menu so my fiancee and i could order food. when given a menu, we proceeded to our seats and scanned through the food selection they had before being approached by the waitress who then took our order. After checking out and paying for our food i realized the total wasn't adding up to the prices on the menu the young lady had given to me earlier. After approaching the Husband and Wife which own the restuarant, i found out that the menu which was given to me was "13 years old and outdated". When i questioned why i was given an old menu, The wife was very patient and attentive to what i was saying, but the Husband was rude, arrogant and disrespectful even overtalking me and accusing me of "taking advantage of them". I ended up getting a refund for my money after being told to never come in to eat at their restuarant again. If you come here to eat, do not use...
