Signature Bagel & Deli — Restaurant in Escondido

I have lived in NY/NJ so I do consider myself a bagel connoisseur of sorts lol. This place is fantastic! The bagels are absolutely delicious and even late in the day, they had more of a selection than most bagel places do after noon. Not only is the food superb and fairly priced but the service I receive every single time I go in is ALWAYS A grade.

One day when I was down on my luck one of the employees made sure to pick up my slack, of course I paid them back the next time I came in(1.50) but it was an unexpected and much needed kindness for me that day. She said it wasn't necessary to repay them but I could not resist. My heart was touched(doesnt usually happen at a bagel shop lol) and I was very grateful.

I highly recommend this bagel shop to anyone in the escondido/san marcos area. I promise you will not be disappointed and I can personally guarantee you will be treated with the utmost kindness and respect. not too mention your belly will be full and happy!

Food was decent, but not good enough for the price. Very expensive! I added avocado to my tuna salad sandwich and it was $2!! I think avocados are $1.50 each at Vons. It was just a few small slices of an avocado. The tuna sandwich was an absolute mess. My son had an egg and cheese bagel with bacon, sausage and ham. They gave him a side of cream cheese in a cup, but it was too cold to spread. It should have been put on the toasted bagel. Extremely slow service! The owner was taking orders out to a car, then bag in to assist with making bagels, with his gloves still on. He used a pen to take an order, used the cash register then back to the bagels without ever changing his gloves. The owner is assisting in taking orders, making bagels and working the register, while there is also an extremely kind lady also making sandwiches. The owner literally coughed into his hand and then grabbed our bagels to put them into the toaster. He then proceeded to grab 2 other bagels out of the toaster with his bare hands, put cream cheese on them without gloves, and then served them to an elderly couple…

We decided to cancel our order and when we told him we didn’t want our bagels he asked why, and we calmly explained it was because we saw him cough into his hand and grab our food. He responded “I grabbed your bagel with plastic,” even though we saw him grab an elderly couples bagel out of the toaster with his bare hands AFTER coughing into his hands.

Regardless of if he used plastic or not to grab our food, it’s completely unacceptable to serve people food after coughing into your hands without washing them afterwards. Especially given the fact that we are still in a pandemic. We will not be returning, and I would advise the owner to ensure he practices proper food hygiene before he makes...
