My friend and I had the pleasure of meeting the Executive Director, Cynthia, when we visited Grape Day Park over the weekend (August 2025). It was just happenstance that we ran into her and we are so grateful Cynthia gave us an insightful tour of the Santa Fe Depot and the Victorian House. We learned so much about the history of Escondido -- from the first settlers who arrived through land grants, the diversion of water from the Native Americans, the rise and fall of industries to the life of the Hoffman Family and their contemporaries. Read moreThis place is very cool. The older I get, the more I have come to appreciate the Escondido History Center. Their web site is full of really cool information and photographs, and when you come here in person, you will see more of that, and feel immersed in the history around you. There is an old train, a Victorian house, a blacksmith shop, and more. Some of the places have a docent, while others are self-guided.
