Was invited here for a friend's birthday dinner. We were a table of 7 (originally 8 but one left feeling under the weather). Not impressed with the service, starting from when my husband hobbled in with his cane and the hostess didn't offer to seat us at our open reserved table while waiting for the others to arrive. Our waiter was pretty snippy and condescending. He definitely knew from the get-go that his tip was guaranteed because of the size of the party. Its a very loud restaurant and at one point, he had me yelling my drink order down the table instead of coming to my end of the table to take it? The appetizers were good and the cocktails were lovely. But the clincher came when we got, first, just a random bowl of rice put on the table before any food came. Second, 2 dinners came while the birthday girl and several others got no food. Then, 3 more dinners arrived 14 minutes later. Eighteen minutes later, the last 2 dinners for the birthday girl and her mother finally arrived. This is appalling for this price point. How could you not have everyone's meals come out simultaneously? And it wasn't just minutes between the rest- it was a long time. The waiter offered no apologies or explanations as to the near 20-minute gap in dinner service. By this time, the random giant bowl of rice was ice cold of course. The food was fine but I've had better at other places in town. This place has a hipster vibe and definitely a hipster wait staff. But, I don't want a "too cool for school" attitude when I'm out for a meal. I wasn't paying but the meal totaled over $500 and the waiter got a fat $83 automatically added on. Frankly, he didn't deserve that large a tip and we certainly didn't add any additional tip because he certainly didn't go above and beyond in any way. I'm pretty shocked this place is so popular. I guess people like ok food and bad service? I won't...
Read moreThose of you who are interested in leaving a review, in hopes for change. I️ would like to inform you that the owner does not “believe in reviews.” My husband had a poor experience over the phone with the hostess, he left a review and we ultimately decided not to have my sister in laws birthday dinner here because of it. My husband ended up removing the review he originally left. We just decided to chalk it up to an odd experience and intended to leave it at that. However, why I’m feeling the need to leave this review now… Is because after the review had been deleted, the owner called us to reprimand my husband for leaving it in the first place. He said it was “particularly disturbing to him because it mentioned the employees name” that my husband had the experience with. (Again, this review had been deleted at this point.) So my husband told the owner that the review had been deleted. To which the owner still continued his point of letting my husband know that his “behavior was unacceptable” and “he hopes he never does that in the future.” I️ was very startled and quite frankly disturbed over the fact he felt it necessary to reprimand my husband over a review and not his employee. I️ would also like to state my husband did not call anyone names or use any profanities in this review. His only issue was that “he used a young girls name.” Which he proceeded to explain for over 10min. It was extremely weird. Had the owner just let it go (SINCE THE REVIEW HAD BEEN DELETED) I️ wouldn’t have even bothered writing this or sharing this story. But the experience was just so odd, I️ ended up reaching out to multiple people to ask their opinion, they also thought that this encounter was odd. I️ personally will never eat at this restaurant and have now had other friends and family members who have said the same, after hearing...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I came to Sabai on a Saturday night with no reservations, and were told it would be about a 15 min wait. After about ten mins, they offered us a seat near the bar, but we declined because there were some rowdy drunks in that area. So we waited for another 15 mins, then asked about the status of our table. The hostess told us about another 10-15mins, since they had just gotten overwhelmed with reservations. At this time, we were getting overwhelmed ourselves and decided to just leave for a different restaurant nearby. A few steps out the door, and a server (later found out her name was Mon) came out after us and said they were cleaning off a table for us. It was a lovely booth with plenty of room for the two of us, so we were stoked. About ten minutes pass and nobody has come by our table. Mon noticed this, and came over to see if anyone had helped us. We said not yet, and she proceeded to take our orders immediately and apologize for the issue, adding that she would comp our drinks for the inconvenience. Mon took care of us until someone came to take over our table. This server (tall, beard, shaved head) was also very apologetic, and took the time to explain to us why things were chaotic. From there forward, we had a lovely experience and the food was amazing! We got the fried green beans, chicken skewers, yellow curry fried rice, and a Thai 71 (drink). Would definitely go back again, just maybe not on a Saturday night. Big shout-out to Mon for...
