Today, my father and I had a dinner reservation at 5:30 and were promptly seated upon entering. Our server, Amanda greeted us cordially, and offered a drink special, smoky something, which we declined. Her demeanor changed almost instantly as she seemed frustrated that we didn’t buy a drink. We did, however order two appetizers, calamari arrabbiata and mozzarella caprese. Both were awesome. My dad ordered shrimp and salmon limone and I ordered lobster delmare. My dish was amazing, I loved every bite of it. I tried my dad’s dish and was not a fan. My dad didn’t like his dish either but he continued to try and eat it, avoiding the proteins and tolerating the pasta. He ended up leaving a bite more than half of the salmon, 2/3 of his shrimp, and a significant portion of pasta. He then told Amanda that he didn’t like it and could not force himself to eat it anymore which visibly disturbed her. She aggressively responded with “do you want to speak to the manager”? To which we said yes. Just shy of 10 minutes went by and she came back with more attitude and asked if he made his way to the table, which he hadn’t, so she took the plate to him. A little while longer and he returns, sits down, and casually asks what was wrong to which my dad responded and the manager told us he’d give us a discount and left. We ordered dessert to go and Amanda was being very passive aggressive and unnecessarily stern with my father. I got up to speak with the manager as a discount of 25% of the dish was not an adequate solution in my opinion. After stating this to him he became immediately defensive. I told him my father didn’t like the salmon and his response was he left almost none of it, which isn’t true. I verbalized that my father said it was dry and had an odd taste to it, “to which he responded” that he tasted it and it was fine. It took everything in me to hold in my laughter, but that is incredibly unsanitary and I’m sure the State health Services would penalize the restaurant heavily if not close it for that. But anyway, I verbalized that I would be happy to pay full price if they remade the dish to my father’s liking to which the manager aggressively responded “that’s twice the cost for me”. I verbalized that Amanda shouldn’t had taken the plate off of the table, in my experience that is what the manager needed to do. If he would have come to the table when we first asked for him I think the outcome would’ve been different. Then he asked me what I wanted him to do after I literally just asked him to remake it but I asked him to comp it if it wasn’t going to be remake it, which he did.
I worked as a server for almost a decade at corporatized restaurants starting at a place with a $15 per person average and ending at a place with about a $75 per person average. I realize that mom and pops are run differently but it is still the service industry and Amanda and the manager handled that situation awfully in my opinion. I recognize that my father should have spoken up sooner but Amanda’s demeanor and everything to include the manager sitting down next to us up to his defensive responses, eating food off of a customer’s plate, and overall demeanor was incredibly unprofessional. If Amanda cannot control her tone and demeanor she shouldn’t be in the front of house period nor should the manager. Never in my restaurant tenure have I ever witnessed such a poorly trained manager and server especially at this price point. I hate to say that because we have gone to this restaurant many times and have only had great experiences, until now. We still tipped, because again I waited tables but as I am typing this I regret giving Amanda one cent more than I had to. The bill with the salmon dish was about $110. After the comp it came out to $80 something and with tip...
Read moreFirst off the food is great. I came here for the first time last night around 530 after my husband was here earlier in the week with a friend who just moved to the area and this was half way. He wanted to bring my daughter and I back here because he really liked it. Service was nothing to write home about (husband had great service the first time he went). I wish a salt shaker would have been on the table. By the time the server came back I was over it. Had to ask for everything even with empty glasses. Never got a side of ranch with the mozzarella sticks that was ordered. I felt like we were her only table and she would just quickly come in and check on us and leave. I thought she might have tables on the other side with how quick she would retreat, but the other side was just the bar area with four people there and a gentleman behind the counter serving them. So I am not sure where she escaped to. Restaurant was about half full by the time we left. I noticed another person bussing dishes but she would take the dishes from one table and then set it down on the next table (with people still sitting at that table) and add to her pile. I feel it could be better handled and pull from one hand and add into your other hand. As we were standing up to leave the same person that was bussing the tables beforehand came over and started on our table while we were still there grabbing our to-go boxes and making sure we got everything. I get the efficiencies but a moment to walk away would be nice. (there was no one waiting when we walked outside and plenty of open tables. - I worked in restaurant for 14 years ranging from server to service manager so I know what to look for.) My main complaint is with the lack of lighting and how loud the music was. My husband said this was how it was and everyone had to complain to turn up the lights. He said he got the same answer the other day. My husband is deaf in one ear so it made it really hard to hear both my daughter (age 14) and I for him as whoever is on his good ear will be who he hears best and usually when my daughter is on the other side it wouldn't matter but the louder background was making it tough. I completely understand ambient lighting but the center tables have little lighting since the lights come from the walls. You have killed our visual senses and our audible senses with the loud music coming from the speakers above. With these two senses off balance, it does make the other senses stronger. However, with that being said you now notice the sticky parts of the table that weren't cleaned as well. The spot on the side of the table that was missed and is rough. I couldn't tell if it was like a rustic staple and part of the décor or if it was dried food. It was too dark to tell. The black checkbook that comes to sign the credit card receipt was wet, dripping and sticky. I had to wipe it down with my napkin. I will go back but I will request to not be under a speaker and sit along the wall with lighting to give it the opportunity to be a 5 star. When I go back, I will...
Read moreWe came here with a group of 20 people I was hosting for a business meeting, most of which were out of towners. Whenever I travel, whether alone or with a group, I always try to support local businesses.
I worked with Jesse to set up the reservation, with a bit of hesitancy as all of this was done via email (they don’t answer the phone at the restaurant). That said, I stopped by the restaurant the day before our group was coming and confirmed everything was good to go. I booked the private room for our group (extra charge for that) and was assured that all would be taken care of. Well, they were right! As our group trickled in they were brought back to the room and seated, with drink orders taken and appetizers ordered. Our server, Stevie, was the only one taking care of us. You would have thought that there were three people serving us. She did an AMAZING job of taking care of us, with timely delivery of appetizers and drinks, taking our dinner orders and making sure we were well cared for during our meal. She checked in with me a couple of times once food was delivered, as well as during our meal, to make sure everything was going well. Everyone in our group commented on what a great job she was doing, particularly that she was the only one taking care of our large group. While there was no shortage of staff, they knew that she had it handled.
And the food.. so very good! We started with meatballs, a shrimp dish and garlic knots. All were really good, but those meatballs were superb. I had the chicken parm, and it was delicious! I tasted someone else’s penne alla vodka, which was also very good. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the cocktails were very good as well (I had a limoncello martini with their house-made limoncello.. delicious!).
I will definitely come back here when in Dallas/Arlington area. Whether alone, or with a large group, this...
