First time going, and it took me and my wife a few extra minutes to learn the expansive menu. When we asked for extra time, they really gave us a lot of time. Seemed like they got two or three waitresses that know what they are doing and one or two that really should not be a waitress. My waitress did an ok job but could have been better. It seemed she was over worked and frazzled and could not keep up with tables and orders. I ordered the chicken fried steak and 2 eggs with a side of hash browns (Large portion plate) and my wife ordered the steak and brown gravy with grean beans ( medium or regular size). My only problem with the food was the fried coating falling off of my chicken fried steak before I could get it into my mouth or off the plate. My plate was supposed to come with two eggs but it looked like one egg so I ordered an extra egg and the same portion size came out. I do not know if the waitress just ordered another side of 2 eggs but if not then the portion that came with my dish was only one egg when it was supposed to be 2, see attached pictures for size comparison. This restaurant does many things well like the fry batter was tasty, and the gravy and biscuit was awesome. I just wanted to leave this review to let other patrons know, give your waitress a break because we never know what they are going through. She also was very friendly and kind. She did bring coffee at the beginning of the meal but forgot the cream and we were taking so long to order that the coffee went cold by the time we were checked on to order at which point I asked for a hot coffee with cream which my waitress did not get so I asked a cook who was checking in on us and he got me all fixed up. I would like to give thus place the benefit of the doubt but my wife has told me to never go back. My last advice is to stick to the breakfast stuff because I enjoyed the gravy and the portion sizes with my...
Read moreWe decided to try Texan Kitchen for brunch on Saturday, April 27th, attracted by favorable reviews . While the meal was generally satisfactory, our experience took an unexpected turn when we discovered a slug nestled in the Banana Nut Waffle—yes, a SLUG on top of the whipped cream and mint leaf. it was quite a shock. Quickly, we alerted one of the waitress, who promptly removed our plate. Thankfully, we had managed to capture photos and videos of the surprising find beforehand. Seeking further assistance, we requested to speak with a supervisor. After waiting for 20-30 minutes, we asked our waitress, Laura, She kindly took my phone to show the video to her supervisor. Upon her return with our bill, she informed us that the cost of the meal had been removed. However, we insisted on speaking with the manager. Subsequently, a man emerged from the kitchen, accusing us of trying to obtain free food by planting the slug ourselves. his words were “ PEOPLE LIKE YOU, I KNOW THEM WHEN I SEE ONE, WHEN THEY TRY TO SCAM ME. His accusatory tone left us speechless. Other customers stood up for us and he decided to change the whole story, stating that they tried to solve the problem many times. After arguing back and forth, we ensured that the cost was added back to our bill, and we paid the full amount, as we had no intention of SCAMMING them. Our intention was simply to raise awareness to prevent such incidents in the future. Although our waitress, Laura, provided excellent service, we have no desire to return to this establishment. It makes one wonder about the conditions in their kitchen. Exactly, cleanliness, is a crucial safety concern in any kitchen. Instead of acknowledging the issue, they chose to accuse us, which is disappointing. it undermines trust in their...
Read moreI promise, I do leave good reviews for restaurants. Unfortunately lately it all seems to be doom and gloom.
Once again I was in between clients and needing to eat lunch so I stopped by this place hoping for home cooking.
Ordered chicken fried steak with fried okra, mashed potatoes and a side salad.
Salad didn't arrive early early as per usual, showing up at the same time as my meal. It consisted of a small plate of chopped lettuce with one slice of tomato, one slice of onion and a few croutons.
Chicken fried steak was tough as hell. Though the breading was not bad, the steak part was inedible. Stringy, flavorless.
Most disappointing, the mashed potatoes were so bland and boring I actually had to add salt and pepper to make them even slightly palatable. I love good mashed potatoes and these tasted like something I probably had out of a high school cafeteria on a bad day. They basically tasted like something out of a box. If they aren't then the chef in the back needs to learn about butter and salt.
Okra was so so. Looks remarkably like the bagged frozen stuff they sell at Dickie's barbecue.
The menu had twice as much available breakfast wise, so maybe actual lunch food is not their forte.
The only pro to my visit was the pleasant waitress.
Deeply disappointed that this little hole in the wall didn't put forth a better...
