Monterrey Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Evans

Evans, Georgia location - Food and service is fantastic and has been for years. Unfortunately for the last 3 months or so there is an armed Columbia County deputy either sitting in a patrol car right at the front door or standing inside the lobby on weekend nights. Apparently something has occurred at this location that necessitates an armed security presence. There are several other restaurants adjacent to this one and there are no armed guards present in those businesses. There is no crime in this area…our house is less than a half mile away and we never lock the doors. Outside of traffic violations you’d be hard pressed to find an area in Georgia with less crime, yet for some reason there is a need for an armed police officers presence at Monterreys on the weekend. Very strange. Luckily there is another Mexican restaurant just down the street where crime is not rampant and no armed guard is necessary….and the food and service is just as good. This Monterreys has been our go to Mexican place for almost 15 years but we will go elsewhere until this unnamed threat, in Evans Georgia of all places, is contained.

What could the threat be that would necessitate armed security? Who can say, but odds are better than good that whatever it is is based on...

First time i have been to Monterrey Mex and it was great! Our party of friends totalled 10 people with the bill split between 3 groups. I was sure our orders were going to be brought to us mixed up or incorrect somehow from our order. Not because of our server (who was fantastic) or any other employee, but we kept altering our dishes with different options than what the menu listed, changed our minds when someone else spoke their particular order, and all around very confusing for myself to follow. So I expected our meals to be somehow wrong from our own indecisive unintended sabotage. But every plate was served exactly to order for every weird & picky request we had. Our server was an absolute boss, with top shelf professionalism and an award winning smile to match. I would absolutely recommend Monterrey Mexican Restaurant to anyone, and i will definitely be back...

The food was great, but the service was nearly non-existent. I came in and got seated, asked what I wanted to drink, given drink, chips and salsa, then waited for awhile with nothing else but the drink, chips and salsa! I kept looking at every server who came by, as I had no idea who was supposed to be mine. Finally someone asked if I was ready to order. Well, yeah, if I had a menu, I would be by now! Given a menu, then waited another 10-15 minutes before anyone came by to take my order! I about got full on just the chips! Should've just left with $2 on the table for the drink! Food finally came fast and hot. But, I never got a drink refill, despite my empty glass. All this, and I was at the first dang table inside the place, right at the front door!! Not sure how they could have...
