Gotta say looking at other reviews, I was excited for this place. I came here a while back when it was a chinese style buffet. It was great tons of options. Now, on a Friday night, I have to admit the options are little to none. We are avid sushi goers so this review hurts but may give other people something more realistic. Price $20 per person. If I had fresh made rolls and better food options I would say price is worth it but not the case at all. Lost our appetites completely when we saw a KID, walked up to the bar with an adult, put his tongs in his mouth before grabbing food with them. Yeah we were finished after that. The sushi was questionable tonight. Some of it had been sitting so long it was unappetizing. There was only one roll I could handle, and the white tuna nigiri is what saved this place. The red tuna was so metallic tasting I had to spit it out. Husband had to stick to white tuna as well but also enjoyed the scallop. I did enjoythe squid nigiri as well. The other options of food was subpar. All of the "hot plates" were empty the entire time we were there. No labels on the food, and what was available was so fried it was difficult to know what I was looking at. I asked a server but they couldn't answer me. It seems that people were swarming the hibachi but honestly $20 per person for hibachi? may as well go to a more quality place. Plus people weren't told when there food was cooked and there were multiple people's food being cooked on the same grill so you can't walk away from the bar without potentially losing your food? Water tasted pretty blah. Like glass full of a bad brita filter water. Again, sucks to write this BUT. This place was packed. so it could be that I have higher expectations for sushi or that there aren't a lot of higher quality sushi for the price places around here. Not sure. But this place was a miss...
Read moreIf I could give no stars I would. I attended a birthday supper tonight. I was shocked to see that the raw chicken, raw steak were cut up in pieces in uncovered big bowls sitting on bar with tongs and everyone just dipping out of bowls putting it on plates to take and give to cook. Who dumps it on a grill with several other people's food and says it will be done in 5 minutes. Very unsanitary. This is food poisoning and/or salmonella waiting to happen. The health inspector sure needs to visit and address thisThe staff did not have any personality and people skills, almost rude. When the bill was brought to the guest the tickets were divided into 5 different tickets. Everyone paid, then when the host of the party was celebrating with her son and serving cake to the guest of the party, one of the resturants waitress, not our waitress calls the party host to the side and told her that the guest did not give enough tip. First off that is totally inappropriate because I was always taught that the tip amount is based off the kind of service you get and what you leave for a tip is your decision. Well I always try to leave cash for tip so the waiter or waitress does not have to wait to get it from the business. I normally give 15 to 20% tip and sometimes more based off service. Well all the waiter had to do was replenish drinks and puck up plates when guest were done. For a waitresses to confront a party host or a customer concerning a tip is totally unethical. This was my first visit to Izumi's and will be my last. Management needs to teach staff respectful people skills. Thanks for spoiling the birthday party because you wrre trying to be greedy. Over priced, nasty food and...
Read moreI really wanted to leave this review on a positive note because the food was delicious, and our waitress took care of us. We showed our appreciation by leaving a generous cash tip before heading to the register to pay.
As I was checking out, I asked—as I always do—if a military discount was offered. Another staff member, a waiter this time, took our receipt and strangely asked if it was for “one or more military discounts,” which felt odd and unnecessary since it was a single bill. What really caught me off guard, though, was the fact that the discount amounted to only $1. It felt more symbolic than meaningful.
What made the situation truly uncomfortable was how he then tapped on the receipt and hinted that we should leave an additional tip on the card. It was as if the cash tip we had already left wasn’t acknowledged or didn’t count. This led to an awkward back-and-forth, during which the waitress thankfully returned and handed him the tip we’d left—yet even after that, he continued to suggest more be added to the card!
At that point, I felt disrespected and honestly, disappointed. What started as a great dining experience ended in discomfort and confusion. I hope the management addresses how these situations are handled because no guest should leave feeling like their gratitude wasn’t enough—or that their service wasn’t sincerely...
