Jerk Yard Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Evanston Township

Today, I was really excited to try this new Jamaican spot, but unfortunately my experience was pretty disappointing. We sat at the bar for about 5 minutes before we were acknowledged by an employee and there was literally only one other person at the bar. No smiles or friendly hellos from the employees upon arriving. The ambiance was very nice and the restaurant itself is aesthetically pleasing, but the food didn’t match the vibe.

The chicken I ordered was very dry, clearly overcooked, and I didn’t even receive a full 8-piece whole chicken as advertised. Instead of drumsticks and whole wings, I was given party wings, one thigh and one breast, which felt misleading. The rice and peas were also hard and dry, almost like they were scraped from the bottom of the pot or had been sitting out for too long. The food was also received luke warm, not hot, after waiting 20 minutes for the order.

I really wanted to love this place because the atmosphere has so much potential, but the food quality definitely needs improvement. I didn’t try the drinks but the bar did look very scarce. Hopefully with some adjustments, this restaurant can live up to the beautiful space...

I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. I've been coming here since it was known as Good to Go, but my visit yesterday for Jamaican food was frustrating. First, the place was dirty, with rice scattered on the chairs, and it was uncomfortably hot inside due to a lack of air conditioning. The patio entrance door was left open, letting in even more warm air.

After we finished our meal, I requested the check. I noticed they had added a gratuity charge, and the total came to $78. However, when the server returned with the receipt, the amount had increased to $81. I asked her for the original check, but she took nearly 15 minutes to come back and said she couldn't find it. Instead, she brought a new check that reflected a different price from what was listed on the menu.

When I requested to speak with the manager or owner, he explained that they charge gratuity for card transactions. I pointed out that I had used my debit card to pay.

I strongly advise against visiting this place. They have poor service and seem to be taking advantage...

Went here for takeout. Not hectic service so that’s a plus. Sat at the bar and waited no issues. Ordered two jerk wing dinners. The wings were huge and well seasoned. That’s all I liked about the meal. My cabbage tasted off it was good texture and all but it was a spice or something in it I wasn’t used to and it threw me off. The rice and peas were dry but the peas were packed with flavor so it balanced the rice out I would recommend a splash or two more of coconut milk. The plaintains were good I did like those too. However it came with no sauce not a drop not a cup not a dab so everything was dry. Also no bread slice. The menu doesn’t scream authentic yard born but it’s a nice revamp if ure into the less traditional things like Rasta pasta and egg rolls. Oh and they didn’t have...
