Tasty Sub — Restaurant in Rogers Park Township

The times I find myself visiting Tasty Sub is when I am very hungry in the late-evening hours prior to my work shift. The affordable, yet filling specials are hard to pass up when there is nothing else available on Howard Street that is open near and after mid-night.

Tasty Sub is a grimy looking, tailor-made to the ghetto sandwich place with no restrooms, seats or tables inside, yet there are prize, tattoo, gumball machines and trash receptacles instead. Reasons behind that I'am not aware of, but it makes the restaurant designed solely for takeout purposes instead of dine-in enjoyment.

Most of the times I visit, I tend to encounter the regulars who are seemingly drunk or high who give the employees behind the glass a hard time in a good way.

As for the foods, the selections to choose from are a variety of submarine sandwiches, italian beef, gyro, burger & hot sandwiches, pizza puff, hot dogs & polish, chicken, seafood, and fish. And as I share this review, I have visited and ordered here on three separate occasions with one ordering the chicken nuggets, another ordering a beef hot dog, and another ordering a pizza puff which each costing no more than $5 w/ fries and canned soda.

As for parking your only option is either neighborhood or street metered parking which can be limited at times. And on the topic of parking, I absolutely do not recommend parking in the Popeyes parking lot because your vehicle is liable to get towed or booted! And trust me there is someone onsite that will make that happen.

Under no circumstance should ANY WOMAN.... ANY WOMAN GO TO THIS RESTURANT... AND NO MAN EITHER. The majority of the Staff have ZERO respect for the public. They completely ignore your requests and think it's a JOKE when their disregard can cause SEVERE illness. I remember when this resturant was a diner over 50 years ago. I remember when they opened. I've been coming here since they opened. I've been asking for Italian beef or any sandwich WITHOUT PEPPERS OR HEAT because of stomach issues. They literally PURPOSELY SET OUT TO ADD PEPPER SAUCE,OR THE PEPPER PICKELING LIQUID. THEY THINK ITS A JOKE IF YOU END UP IN A HOSPITAL. STAY AWAY. I ordered a sandwich no hot peppers for the 20th plus time. The beef was doused in hot pepper liquid, I took it back ask if they wanted to remake it or refund it , THEY ARGURED WITH ME TRIED TO DISCREDIT AND EMBARASS ME FOR THEIR "JOKE". They thought it was funny, they remade it, it's was still the same. COMPLETELY INEDIBLE, IM TURNING IT OVER TO CITY INSPECTORS THEY WERE PURPOSLY TRYING TO MAKE ME SICK, 2 bites I've been sick for 3 days. Plus the waste of money this has happened more than a dozen times in the past 6 years, they exact same men in the kitchen. THEY HATE WOMEN DO NOT GET FOOD HERE. Much better resturant 2 BLOCKS WEST, IS A NEW RESTURANT AL'S BROASTED CHICKEN, the food is Clean, cooked fresh in a pristine clean kitchen. High quality ingredients beautifully prepared and they are fantastic people. Great customer service same pricing. THE STREET IS FILLED WITH QUALITY FOOD CHOICES. ITS EASY TO AVOID THE THE BAD ONES. For the last week I’ve been going everyday trying new things every time. I was very enthusiastic to try the Italian beef but it ended up being the packaged precooked sliced beef. I got sick to my stomach halfway eating it and I called to ask for a refund. On the phone they told me they would honor my dissatisfaction with another item. When I returned later, after my stomach ache subsided the long time owner/operator proceeded to inappropriately question me and basically embarrass me by refusing to give me the normal meal I had ordered. I was forced to argue about multiple petty subtractions from the meal like the additional patty, the fries, and he even tried having me leave with out a drink. All while rude customers complained behind me. You could have handled that so easily. Now you have another 1 star review....
