My first time visiting and the most expensive haircut of my life! But I took a risk and treated myself, which I hardly ever do and got a curly girl hair cut. You know us moms we are always taking care of others so it's hard to justify taking care of yourself. But I felt pampered. Even just having someone else wash my hair was relaxing. I almost dozed off under the dryer too. My first time sitting under one of those too. I felt like I was in an old time movie set, like Steel Magnolias. I appreciated being asked what I do at home, but I wasn't chastised as if I had been doing anything wrong. I was just slowly taught what the cut was, how my hair grows, what kind of products would work best. Even an offer to come back in if a hair was not cut properly in the first week or so after my cut. I've never had that before. Luckily, everything is lovely. My hair is easy to work with. I am not as adept as Margaret was, but my style lasts for days with minimal refresh each morning. Still deciding which products to purchase that were used on my hair, there was no hard sell, which I appreciated. I have so many products at home already, trying to see if any still work or if they need to be pitched.
If you have curly hair or perhaps you are like me, have curly hair but hadn't embraced it for various reasons, this is the place to try. My son was my cheerleader. I wore my hair straight for most of his life and this past summer I had it thinned out and realized it was acting curly after all these years. So I let it go natural one day and my son said how pretty I look and he wondered why I didn't wear my hair like that all the time. He gave me the courage to go natural. And Cally's Curls & Company enhanced what I already had. Paying me sweet compliments about my curls made my week! Margaret thanks so much for the great service and the...
Read moreI've patronized this salon twice, once for a Deva cut and once for color. The Deva cut went well, and I enjoyed that the stylist (Cally) talked me through the cut, plus she was not intimidated by my curly 4a hair. Overall, I enjoyed that experience and loved my cut.
My second experience with getting color was not as good as my first. My appointment was at noon, yet I was kept waiting for 30 minutes in the waiting area. When the stylist (Bette) got a look at my hair, she let me know that she would only have time for a single process and not highlights because of the thickness of my hair, despite me making an appointment for both processes. She did apologize for the lack of consultation time on the salon's part and advised that this topic of conversation would be brought up at the next staff meeting.
Bette was very much overbooked on the day I went, so I was kept waiting during a lot of my appointment while she finished up with other clients, but other stylists did step in to help at times. I came into the salon at noon and did not leave until about 4:30PM. I'm disappointed with my color as it's too brassy and didn't process throughout my entire head of hair. My roots are so much brighter than the rest of my hair and my ends are still dark. It boils down to a lack of a color consultation and possibly a lack of understanding on how my type of hair is affected by color.
I appreciate the friendliness of everyone at the salon and their wealth of knowledge, and I don't doubt Bette's color expertise, but I don't feel comfortable with getting color services at this establishment, and I caution other naturals with a kinkier curl pattern to request a consultation before...
Read moreCurls & Company feels like the curly haven I've always dreamed of. A friend referred me in, as I was starting on the curly girl method and struggling on my own, and booked an appointment with Lisa Marie. She started with a full consultation to understand my challenges and goals with my curls, asking about routine and products used and how I finish my hair (air dry, diffuser, etc). She cut my hair dry, to the curl pattern, per the Devacurl method, and I could immediately see the curls perk up and lay in a more organized fashion.
Once she was done with the initial cut, she washed my hair, being careful to read all labels for ingredient allergies, which I really appreciated. While she washed, conditioned and scrunched, we talked more about products, and by the end of the wash, had a recommendation for one product that might solve some of my challenges, and scrunched that into my hair post wash. After drying, she scrunched the crunch of the gel out, and I saw curls that were well defined, soft and shiny! Dreamy. She then did a few final fine tuning on the cut, seeing how the curls lay once washed fresh. This was the first time in my life that I walked out of the salon wanting to show off my hair, not go home, wash, and restyle. 3 days later, I still hadn't washed my hair, and refreshing the curls with a mister after my shower, the curls were still popping! Lisa Marie was such a kind, gentle guide on my journey, and it's just so refreshing to be in a salon that's curl focused, and chatting with other clients about their curl routines. Can't...
