I've been going to Purple Pizza for probably close to 10 years now and I'd love to be able to disagree with the other reviewers here, but I just can't. The service here is terrible, the delivery takes hours (that isn't an exaggeration), the prices are inconsistent, and a lot of the food on the menu is pretty bad.
The only reason I still come to this establishment is for the Cluck-U chicken, which I am simply addicted to. But my understanding is that the Cluck-U items are something of a franchise product, so you can't even credit Purple Pizza for making them. There are actually other stores that sell Cluck-U chicken, but this one is the closest to where I live so I begrudgingly give them my business.
If you do order from Purple Pizza, here are the tips I have for you:
Never get delivery. Seriously, just go get it yourself. Delivery times can take up to 2 hours.
Assume they got your order wrong. If you are getting takeout, never leave without looking through the bag to see that everything is there and correct.
Look over your receipt carefully. I don't know if it is incompetence or outright thievery, but many times I have been overcharged or charged for items I did not order.
To reiterate, I have probably placed over 100 orders with Purple Pizza in the decade I've been frequenting their establishment, and with all honesty I can say only perhaps 1/4 of those transactions went without issue.
Re-reading this review, I can't imagine that anyone would see this and then actually order from Purple Pizza. Which is probably the right decision to make, in reality. I order here because I really like one product they offer and I live close enough to the store that I can afford to drive there and babysit them while they stumble their way through the preparation of my food.
It's a little bit like I'm in an episode of "The Twilight Zone"; I'm stuck acting as a steward for this forsaken place, helping to keep them in business with my insatiable desire for smothered chicken fingers. Yet I feel it's my duty to warn away weary travelers who might fall victim to their unscrupulous ways. Like "The Howling Man", but with more barbecue sauce and less Satan.
That's the signpost up ahead - your next stop...some other place that sells...
Read moreI stopped by here on a Friday afternoon to get a couple slices of pizza, based on a recommendation of an acquaintance who said their pizza was good. It is!! I've lived in the area about four years but had never gone in there before and now I'm sorry I didn't go sooner. My friend loves their chicken and their pizza was the best I've had in the local area (I've ate at Nino's, Princeton Pi, Papa's and Candela's in the past). The crust is rather unique, lightly crisp on the bottom and practically melted in the mouth, wasn't too tough or chewy at all like some pizza crust can be. Their sauce had a good flavor and they used the perfect amount of cheese, generous but not too much to make the crust get soggy or have it slide off the slice. It was sooooo good! I will definitely be going back as often as I can afford :) (P.S. I mentioned which day of the week I went there just in case they have a different employee making their pizza on different days).
edit: I amended my review and subtracted a star. A relative and I ate here recently and bought a Margherita pizza which was superb. However, a week later, I placed my first delivery order from here and the pizza was very sub-par. I had read many reviews complaining of the quality of their delivery pizzas and I can attest that is correct. When I ordered eat-in or carry out pizza from here, it was superb and had a wonderful crust and delicious toppings, though when I received my pizza delivery I found the pizza had a tough, over-cooked crust which was half-soggy and half of the cheese had slid off of the pizza onto the inside of the box. Very...
Read moreTHE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFETIME!!! It was a late night and I wanted to get some wings and pizza. I buy wings from Purple pizza time to time but it was always in person! PLEASE CONTINUE TO READ: I ordered 41$ worth of food (paid using my debit card)with a drink included, they told me it was an hour wait for delivery, I decided to wait. He then said, he doesn't deliver to door and I have to come to his car. I thought wow this guy is joking, he just hung up on me...I got to my door and see him seating in his car, I asked him to bring me my food but he said "you comin to the car or not? You don't want ur food?" I replied saying I can't come to ur car, then without hesitation he pulled off and left with my food!!! I was so pissed, I paid 41$ already, I'm almost 8months pregnant, and I waited that long period to enjoy some food but instead, got the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE EVER IN MY LIFE...I had a 5$ tip ready for this man, to make matters worst they won't even issue me a refund and my bank can't void until the payment is posted even though it's already out of my account...this all happened last night!!!!!!
