First time visiting this branch location of the Empire Hunan Chinese restaurant family.
It is more spacious and decor is better than its sister branch in Teaneck.
However, that is the only positive marker that I am able to give about this location.
Service was below standard compared to the Teaneck post. Staff seemed more standoffish and only a few smiled and were eager to make my visit welcome, hospitable and comfortable.
The lunch menu offerings were quite limited, again, comparing it to the lunchtime variety served in Teaneck.
The sashimi sampler was okay and was fresh. Salad wasn't fresh. The leaves seemed wilted. The house special fried rice was supposed to have 3 meats plus shrimp. The pork was virtually nonexistent and Only 1 shrimp was given. For that matter they should not have offered the dish at all or even offer any shrimp. The quantity was also less than what is normally served as the lunch special portions. At least based on how they give it at the Teaneck branch.
I think I may stick to the old tried and true Teaneck location in the future. This location may have been sold to new ownership, and thus,...
Read moreIf you are looking for real authentic Chinese food, this is it! Empire Hunan is my husband’s favorite restaurant now & makes it a weekly family trip.
The sushi and sashimi are so fresh. The scallion pancakes are so fluffy thick and crispy with loads of flavor. The prices are reasonable and fair.
I have tried to order a different dish every time I go and every one has been delicious and flavorful. The spareribs on the bone were recommended to us by friends but I find the boneless are better. Guess it’s a matter of preference.
Overall, once you’ve tried this food, other quickie Chinese food places won’t compare & you will be not order from anywhere else, as it is for my family & friends who have experienced Empire Hunan. The service is friendly. The lighting is a little dark & sometimes there is a good wait between courses but you will not be disappointed.
Just be careful not to order too many apps or you won’t have room for dinner. Even all the leftovers are just as delicious the...
Read moreMy friend and I have been coming here for seven years. The food is excellent - my favorite. We don't think twice about eating large - ordering multiple appetizers or multiple entrees and sharing them. The food is, as I stated, is excellent for the area.
The wait staff can either be helpful or annoying, depending on who you get. Most of the time it is good. One time we came in and as soon as we were seated our waitress took out her pen and pad and asked what we wanted to order - as if we knew. A majority of the time though the wait staff is good. The decor could use an updating - it tries to evoke elegance but comes off as tacky. It's very out of place for a Chinese/Japanese restaurant. The music is also out of place - string instrumental versions of Broadway show tunes and love songs. If there is any major recommendation I would make it would be to overhaul the interior design and...
