This is my first time visiting Donutchew. I was drawn to it being that I'm a donut fiend. I've had freshly made, delicious mochi donuts before, so this definitely didn't compare. However, I love the decoration, the customer service and the extensive menu, which is the reason for the 4 stars. I originally stopped by to eye the menu and plan my post-lunch coffee-time dessert. I let the barista know that I'll be returning but will order something simple. She suggested the cortado and I said yes immediately, and asked for iced. It was perfectly strong and not watered down. Fast forward a few hours, I returned as promised and she remembered me. We decided to order 2 mochi donuts and a few drinks: -chocolate and cinnamon/sugar donuts -red velvet latte -hazelnut latte -regular latte One thing to note is that she couldn't really describe the drinks. For example, I asked her if the red velvet latte tastes like chocolate or just sugary (since it's basically red-dyed chocolate) and she had no idea. I asked her what are the top drinks (besides what was shown on the board) and she couldn't answer that. But she was friendly. The donuts tasted a little stale and the chocolate frosting was definitely a little too hard. The cinnamon toast crunch was a cute touch to the donut, but again was stale. I wasn't a fan of the red velvet latte, it was pure sugar and aside from the intense pink color didn't taste the way I expected a red velvet cake to taste (most likely because the cream cheese is important to the flavor). The decoration and swag for purchase are all show-stoppers, perfect for photo ops or even social media. They have a cute little photo booth inside as well. There is plenty of seating available. I can't say that I'd return as I'm not a big mall person and wasn't too terribly impressed with the donuts.

I was craving donuts and my favorite go-to spot was already closed. Noticed there was a new donut shop that recently opened and decided to give it a try. The donut shop is located inside the Fair Oaks Mall (pretty hidden deep in a corner near H&M). Entered the store and was warmly greeted by the staff. Took a few minutes to look over the menu and decided to try 3 different types of donuts. They are shaped like flowers and look much different than your average donut - so I was curious to see what it tasted like. They also have a variety of different drinks and since I love Thai tea, I had to try that as well. I was excited to try the donuts right away so my son and I sat down at a table nearby outside of the shop. The taste was unique and very different, and the texture was not what I expected. It was very gummy and chewy - and the glaze was not that good. We took a couple bites, but ultimately we ended up throwing away the rest. The drink on the other hand was delicious and I would definitely go back to try other flavors. The ladies/employees were nice and friendly which is the only reason for the 3 stars, but unfortunately the donuts were not (in my opinion). I find you’ll either love it or hate it and for me personally it was the latter.

I tried my first-ever mochi donut from the Rio Donutchew location. Since I have no point of comparison to other mochi donuts, my review is mainly based on very subjective initial impression. I must say…”Donutchew” is a rather odd name that isn’t exactly the most appetizing. The shop itself is very cozy. The owners have spent a lot on decor. It’s a good gathering spot for couples and friends with a cafe vibe. The menu is varied and includes coffee and other drinks, as well as a wide variety of mochi donut flavors. I tried the plain and Ube-frosted donuts. They were ok. I was not a fan of the chewy texture. I found the mouth feel to be a mix of spongy and chewy, particularly when compared to the light airiness of yeast-based donuts, or the melt-in-your mouth deliciousness of freshly-fried Duck Donuts. Again, this was my first mochi donut experience, so my 3 star review may not reflect the quality of Donutchew donuts (they may be amazing compared to other mochi donuts…or much worse!). Still, it was interesting to try and I wouldn’t mind trying some other flavors for comparison.

I stopped in this store today which is located in Fair Oaks Mall because my usual place I get my iced coffee was out of the way. I ordered 2 donuts and an iced coffee. When my order was ready a woman from the kitchen came and handed me a quart size carton of cream for my coffee and walked away. I instantly looked at my daughter to say, "What is happening".

I worked at a restaurant many years and have had a Manager food safety license in Virginia for a long time, so I know giving a customer with possible unwashed hands an item that goes back in your refrigerator to handle is a health issue. Not to mention, not knowing whether I had any symptoms of an illness, or If I could have possibly slipped something dangerous in the cartoon before it is placed back in the fridge. My first thought was who else handled this carton before me.

When it was finally took off the counter to the kitchen area, I asked, one of the gentlemen behind counter isn't it unsafe and unhealthy to have customers handling a carton of cream that is going back in your fridge and he said, " no its not unsafe, its fine" and the sheer shock of him saying that was unbelievable. You can Google that and it will tell you how my health borne illnesses and dangerous that is.

I will not be going back and advise anyone that see that happen in an food establishment to ask to speak to manager or owner who allows something like...
