First the vibes are so right in this nice establishment! Came on a Sunday and they have a live DJ playing old schools tunes which match the nostalgic atmosphere and food being served. The manager Ms. Cia promptly came over and greeted my sister and I warmly welcoming us in as first time customers and was followed by our waitress Tiana who matched her warm energy. I am not picky about service but to be honest it was so refreshing to have them make my sis and I feel so happy to have picked this spot for our road trip lunch and we hadn’t even ordered yet! Now to the food, we both ordered the 2 piece golden fried fish with my two sides being the candied yams and Mac and cheese with hush puppies while her sides were the deviled egg potato salad and jasmine rice with brown gravy and corn bread. Sweet lord baby Jesus these people KNOW what they are doing and you can taste the heart and soul they put into the food! Nothing was lacking in flavor or freshness and let me tell you if I’m going to indulge in food on the heavier hitting side I require it to be made from scratch with quality ingredients by people who know what they’re doing. Our food came out piping hot, delicious and more than we could have hoped for. My favorites were the Mac & the sweet potatoes and hush puppies but EVERYTHING was truly a hit (ask for extra lemons for your yummy flaky fish). Additionally, the place was packed when we got there and servers were still making sure to keep the tables and floors clean which was another major green flag. Ms. Cia came back to talk with my sister and I and it literally felt like we were chatting it up with an old friend she is a star and deserves all the accolades for being on top of everything but also so genuinely cheerful and awesome. My sister and I left full but also super happy and wish we lived nearby to frequent this place more often but it just gives us another reason to make another trip. Suppose this amazing business and its beautiful people you will...
Read moreFOLLOW UP On Sundays, noon is when they open. I was deeply disappointed there were no breakfast options only dinner. The staff did try their best within their means to make this a happy experience. We ordered the shrimp & grits, the red velvet waffle, red beans & rice, fried fish, and sweet potatoes. The shrimp and grits were really good. The shrimp tasted fresh and perfectly cooked. The grits were creamy and not saturated with milk butter or cheese. The fish was also really good and although fried it was not greasy. The sweet potatoes were reminiscent of any Sunday dinner. The red beans were too soupy and lacked the presence of its own gravy which I believe is necessary when served as a main course. The rice seemed slightly overcooked and the waffle was dry. The taste and texture without adding the butter, syrup and other toppings says a lot. Without the toppings the sweetness was almost absent. The only “red velvet” was the color because the red velvet (chocolate) flavor wasn’t there. This is the one thing I will never try again. Everything else may be worth a second chance. The service definitely added to the experience. Big props to the staff. Unfortunately they may never know considering the review responses are AI generated.
I can’t speak on the food because it was a 45 minute wait. I WILL say it was clean and inviting and those who seemed sympathetic in apologizing for such a long wait due to a party. I can only assume the wait is a positive representation of good service and food. I guess I’ll have to return...
Read moreI was a little nervous coming to the restaurant knowing this place is originally in Texas, I wasn’t sure it would be done justice in Fairfield. I stand corrected!
The location has a counter you order at. PLEASE NOTE IT IS CARD ONLY NO CASH! Once you order you sit and get served.
Originally a huge group of my family came in and everyone raved about how great the place was! Although the wait for the food was long once they got it everyone loved it! We came again for dine in on a Thursday and found out it was takeaway day. Essentially no table service, your food comes in a takeaway container but you are welcome to sit and eat in restaurant. This didn’t bother me because I didn’t have to ask for a to go container but for those who don’t like this come on another day.
We ordered the fish, chicken, mac & cheese, rice & white gravy (DEFINITELY get extra gravy), cornbread, and hush puppies. Let me tell you -THE FLAVOR WAS THERE! I don’t ever eat ppl fish because it usually isn’t seasoned enough but they did their thing with this! Loved everything we had I’d definitely recommend hush puppies over cornbread. The only complaint I have is that sides weren’t very warm which can easily be fixed by ensuring temp checks to make sure it stays hot.
The service was friendly you were greeted when you came, checked on as you stayed, and spoken to before leaving. I don’t usually eat out for soul food because no one does it better than family at home but I will absolutely be coming back with family and friends to aunt bills again!...
