Donut Spot — Restaurant in Fairfield

As a local who also travels a lot, this is easily one of the best donut places in the Greater Cincinnati area, probably even in the midwest! Currently I am completing the Butler County Donut Trail, and most of the places I've visited so far (nor finished the trail yet, 4 spots remain unvisited) taste above average, but nothing blew me out of the water. The one place on the trail I loved above all else was called the Donut House, but recently closed down. Their donuts were seriously phenomenal! I stopped doing the trail for 6 months because I didn't think there could be other donuts around that could even compete, taste wise and price wise.

After they closed, I started looking at the reviews for the other donuts shops on the trail, and the Donut Spot also had equally high ratings. To truly test how the rise and taste of the donuts compared to the Donut House, I ordered a plain glazed yeast donut. Not only are these one of the most basic donuts, they are simply delicious. By looking at how fluffy the inside is after the first bite, how the glaze cracks and stays on, and looking for the gentle sweetness of the dough, you can tell the quality of the rest of their yeast donuts.

Well let me tell you, these donuts are just as good as the Donut House! The dough was sweet, light, airy, and cooked thoroughly, yet substantial enough to stay intact after biting into it. The glaze was freshly applied (I arrived at around 6:45-7am, this was a few weeks ago on a Sunday) and stayed put while still crinkling enough to show it had set. Even hours after opening, the doughnuts were freshly stocked and delicate.

To be fair, the shop doesn't look like anything special, but to me that shows their focus is primarily on their product, not on updating the interior. It's a humble shop with a splendid donut, what more is there to say? Their filled donuts have a good variety and taste, they have some unique cake donuts (I had a orange juice flavoured one, it was delicious!), and they totally NAIL the basics of what makes a donut great.

TL;DR: If you're looking for an inexpensive donut that doesn't try to cover its inadequacy with wacky flavours, this is the place to go. Half a dozen mixed donuts (plain, filled, cake, etc) with a coffee...

Whenever someone mentions the Donut Spot, they talk about the wonderful... AWESOME donuts they offer, and they are correct - it is a great product.... but even more so, this business exemplifies the way small businesses should be run. There are several businesses in this Riegert Square complex that should pay attention to how the Donut Spot treats their customers.

I could name at least 2, possibly more businesses along this strip center that take their customers for granted, where the Donut Spot makes you feel like they really value your business.

It is very common to have to wait in line while other donut lovers are getting their fix. However, the staff moves through the line very quickly and they are just so darn friendly and kind..

Dunkin Donuts will soon be opening another Fairfield location, very near the Donut Spot --- I would encourage everyone to first try the donut spot and then the only reason you would ever have to visit Dunkin' Donuts is if the donut spot is not open.

And that's okay. If you drive a Mercedes, it's okay to have a Pinto as a backup.

One last thing, their coffee is as good as any place in the area so don't miss the opportunity to enjoy a good cup of Joe while you're there.
