Finally, a coffee shop that pays attention to the water used. Expensive filters help to make coffee at Refuge the safest and possibly the tastiest in Fairhope.
Fairhope water is less than outstanding, thanks to "mystery powder" from China, which arrives with a "toxic waste" skull symbol on every bag. This powder is summarily dumped into the municipal water. Nothing is tested except the fluoride levels (from chemical waste, not pharma grade fluoride by the way).
It's so heartening to see that a town like Fairhope trusts the health of its citizens to a nation across the sea with a president who brags that his people "believe they are descended from 'The Dragon'." The prices are great, it's clean and well lit; and it offers a number of seating options to social distance or share time with others. Brands are roasted in house and the espresso is rich with an impressive creamy head, but not so bold that you'll have to brace before sipping; smooth with no bitterness. They have a few non-coffee offerings and things to nosh. A fine place to...
