First and foremost I would like to point out that I visit Tong Phoon quite frequently, sometimes multiple times per week spending about $40-50 each visit. On June 28th, I ordered pot stickers and when I got home and started eating them, there was hair in the first one. No big deal. I called in and I was told to take a picture to have them replaced for next time. Today I went inside to place an order and I presented the picture and I was told that the manufacturer makes them and he asked to take a picture of the pot sticker from my phone and took his phone to the back. He came back up and said everything was okay. When I came back in to get the order, there was a lady whom I greeted and she did not greet me back. As I was about to walk out, she told me that I need to take a picture of the entire order of potstickers and that they come from a manufacturer. I told her that I did exactly as instructed, and does it really matter if I take a picture of the whole order?? I’m showing you the one with the hair. She went back and forth about something that has absolutely nothing to do with the customer. At the end of the day when you have a business it’s your responsibility to make things right. The whole ordeal honestly was a turnoff from ever coming back here. Zero accountability, horrible attitude, horrible customer service, and you definitely shouldn’t make such a big deal about a situation so petty!

This was my second time visiting after enjoying my first visit, BUT a cracked piece shell/glass (?) of some sort came out of the shrimp pad thai. Mistakes can happen but I believe you have to take responsibility for them! We ordered pick up so I called the restaurant to let them know and kindly asked for a refund on that dish. I told them I could also send them a picture (attached) to show them, but they didn’t respond whether they wanted it or not. The person on the phone said they would check their system and give us a call back. After 30 minutes of waiting, no call back. So, we called them back and they continued to make excuses of saying they checked their kitchen and nothing should’ve caused it etc. They refused to give us a refund but did offer that if we came back, they would re-make the food for us. We were already 20 minutes away so that was NOT worth it, especially after something came out of the food. Overall, I’m disappointed with the way they handled the situation. A proper apology was not even made. After this experience, I checked the other low reviews and saw multiple other situations similar to mine. This is NOT a one time thing.

Recently a few friends from work and I formed a supper club. Tong Phoon Thai was our first stop and it was an excellent choice. We started with 3 different appetizers: Shrimp in a Blanket, Spring Rolls, and Crab Rangoons. The first two were exceptional, I'd go so far to say the Spring Rolls were the best I've ever had. The Crab Rangoons were only okay and somewhat plain tasting. I got the Pad See Eew and it was also really good. Everything was very fresh. I gotta say the waiter was outstanding! He was friendly and engaging and I was grateful for his suggestions. We finished off with a dessert of his suggestion, it was Mango with sticky rice. I had never tried this before and it was surprisingly good. The sticky rice was covered by half a mango sliced thin with all covered in a sweet, thick coconut sauce. The rice was warm and its taste reminded me of movie popcorn, the combination of all the flavors isn't something I can easily describe other than it was delicious! The experience as a whole was worthy of a top rating. I'd like to return sometime and explore the menu more.

FINALLY a proper THAI restaurant, staffed with THAI people who understand the food. My wife and I live in Thailand, but we've been staying in the St Louis / Fairview Heights area for about two months. We have tried LOTS of local Thai restaurants, only to be disappointed over and over again. But Tong Phoon is serving real Thai food. First of all, they have the most important ingredient, which is the famous Thai (Jinda)Chili. Other restaurants in the area say they don't have any. How can you make Thai food without Thai chilies? I would say that you can't. Second, the owner here said they can customize food, like making it taste authentic rather than Americanized. Other restaurants told us that they cannot customize anything because they pre-make all the sauces in advance. The main problem with Americanized Thai food is the loads of sugar they add. I guess they want to make it taste like American-Chinese food, since this genre is more widely known. But the beauty of Thai cuisine is the balance of its impactful flavors - spicy, sour, and sweet. In any case, from now on, whenever we are in town, Tong Phoon shall be...
