My wife and I will be moving away from this area (350+ mi) and we are absolutely devastated that we will no longer be able to order food from Sushi Tatsu.

Three years we have been ordering from this restaurant as much as possible. I remember my wife and I ate here like 4-5 times in a month (that was a hefty bill statement!) but honestly, it was worth every cent.

The food is seemingly made with the utmost care and love. The food is absolutely perfect in every way. The sushi melts in your mouth and you simply cannot control yourself when it comes to the amount of rolls you order. One roll? Not enough. Two? Not even close. Sometimes you just want the sushi rolls to keep coming until you can't walk any more.

The quality in the food, the quality in the work the staff provides... it's enough that my wife and I simply cannot go anywhere else for sushi.

If you just moved to this area, please for the love of all that is man, go to this restaurant. You might wait a bit for food when days get busy, but the wait is honestly worth it. Enjoy the wait by reading a book or talking to your spouse/significant other. There is no rush to this food. Let them perfect your food and you will not be disappointed.

Sincerely, A loyal fan... and heartbroken man and wife that are...

Delicious Food, Quaint Atmosphere—Worth the Visit! ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…

I recently dined at Sushi Tatsu and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. I ordered three servings of tuna sashimi, which came as 12 pieces of fresh, well-cut tuna. The tuna was cold (but not frozen), full of flavor, and had a great color—definitely 5-star quality. I also had a spicy salmon roll, which tasted fantastic. Though the roll was a bit loosely wrapped, the quality of the salmon was perfect. The miso soup that came with it was flavorful and a nice touch.

Sushi Tatsu is run by an older couple who handle everything themselves, so don't expect quick service. However, they make up for it with excellent hospitality—my water was refilled promptly, the order was taken quickly, and the service was incredibly kind and attentive.

The only downside is the atmosphere, which I’d give 3 stars. The interior is a bit grungy and outdated, with cardboard in the windows, worn-out chairs, and simple booth seating. However, if you’re someone who appreciates supporting small businesses with fantastic food at a good price, this is the place to go. It’s not about the decor; it’s about quality sushi, and Sushi Tatsu delivers. If I’m back in Illinois, I’ll definitely be...

I loved this place the first time we tried it. I loved that it was quiet and not hectic. Every where I travel I always try 3 staple rolls or fish (spicy tuna, albacore, & vegetable) to see if I trust them with anything else and they were great. So I went a second time. Ordered the same plus a few other rolls to go. When I got home we feasted but when it came to 2 new rolls with fish slices on top we found it had a very strong fishy smell. I told myself to get over it and just eat. I had to stop after a while and within an hr I was just sick...stomach sick for a few days. I had to toss the rolls, which was painful to do. I love sushi. Eaten it everywhere. Lived in Japan. Never have I had fish that made me sick... This was fish I normally order and eat. My guess is it was old. Unfortunately won't be going back. I'd say stick to cooked things or go on Fridays to Sundays when it's most guaranteed that their fish will be fresh for the weekend parties and such. On the plus side, they did do a recent remodel of tables and chairs. Looks great. And the host and chef are really nice people. They do well with health accommodations and additions to...

Sushi Tatsu offers the best sushi in Belleville, Fairview Heights, Swansea, O'Fallon, and St. Louis- hands down. Not only is their sushi better than any other restaurant in the area, but the rolls are almost double the size of any other restaurnant's rolls and for the same price! At the first look, one wouldn't expect such a marvelous experience. It's really a hole-in-the-wall feel, as it's attached to a jewelry shop (might be closed?). I've been going to Sushi Tatsu for the last 8 or 9 years and will continue to for as long as I can. A sweet couple runs the restaurant and provides a wonderful experience when dining in. My husband and I always start with miso soup and salad with ginger dressing (they used to sell the ginger dressing in large containers, but had to stop because they couldn't keep up with making the sushi and dressing- people loved it so much), then share four or five rolls, and enjoy the complimentary fresh pineapple for dessert. We always eat way too much when we go because it's all so delicious. If you're not a sushi fan, they have several other dishes available.

I went here on a Tuesday night to treat myself to a nice dinner alone. I had a little trouble finding it, almost passed it up. They have an OPEN sign lit up but the actual sign on the building with the restaurant name was hard to see in the dark. There is plenty of parking though! There was only one other couple there, but several people came for take out while I ate. It was very quiet, the service was good. They left me alone and didn’t bother me much except to refill my water, check on me a couple times. Which I like to be left alone when I’m eating alone lol. It was the perfect atmosphere to just relax, clear my mind and enjoy my food. The plum wine was yummy, along with my dumplings for an appetizer. Sushi was sooo good. I loved the tempura Philadelphia and dynamite rolls. The red dragon ended up being my least favorite of the four rolls I got. It was still good just didn’t have as much flavor as I wanted. Overall, I would definitely return and 100% recommend
