Puerto Rico 7-Day 6-Night Travel Guide Part 2/2: Food Edition

This place was legit! There's a lot of attention to detail and it shows. We had one of the first reservations of the night right after open and when we walked in I noticed the staff meticulously checking everything on the tables and making sure things were perfect. When a restaurant cares about the little things, it's gonna translate into everything that comes out of the kitchen. They brought my 5 year old his chocolate milk in a wine glass with the edges drizzled with chocolate syrup, such a nice and cool thing they didn't have to do but they care about your experience. The food was incredible, each dish we had was paired perfectly with their sides. Our server, Irving, was so helpful with recommendations and knew every detail of each dish. We started with the cubanito sliders and these things were awesome, the pork was juicy and tender and packed with flavor, the buns seemed freshly baked. We also got the Gouda Croquette's, little fried balls of gourmet Mac and cheese basically, topped with sweet little pieces of guava shells, really awesome balance of salty and sweet. For the entree my wife and I shared the Lecho Asao, roasted pork shank with pigeon pea rice and sweet plantains. The pork was unreal, and the rice was almost the star of the plate with how much flavor it had. Again, just a lot of attention to detail at this place, look forward to going again next time we're here!

This is a casual restaurant in the El conquistador resort. In the mornings they serve breakfast here. In the evening it is a Puerto Rican restaurant. They just changed this restaurant's name to Ventana's. It is a beautiful restaurant newly constructed but service the evening that we dined in this restaurant was a disaster. The appetizers and the meal did not come for a good hour. There was no manager in the kitchen and just some cooks not really plating things correctly. Food came out finally after 1 hour practically tepid. Food was just okay and did not taste that great. We got the manposteao which came with two shrimps on top and the shrimps were dry and overcooked. The rice mixed with beans were just okay. Nothing spectacular. The dried fried pork came out pretty dry tasting no flavor. The churrasco steak was not that great at all. We assume this was a bad incident we will have to try this restaurant again at our next visit because the year before it was really good and we were looking forward to coming back to have the food here.
