So - I admit i had high expectations. I love eating new things and expanding my horizons and Rosewild had great reviews and recommendations from friends. Being that this was our anniversary - I though it would be nice to go to Rosewild. We ordered the “Chefs Choice” which essentially the Chef chooses and prepares a menu for you. I hadn’t eaten all day in preparation for this special night out. Now - It is no fault of the chef’s of what I don’t personally like, so its not about what I like or don’t like. To start - the first few courses were shellfish (Oysters, Mussels) - and I personally question a restaurant cooking items that caters to “ . . .seasonal ingredients that represent our truest commitment to the nordic-plains cooking of North Dakota” serving so many shellfish dishes. Not a lot of oysters in the few lakes we have. (The broth on the mussels was excellent btw) Two courses that stood out were the vegetable soup (parsnip if memory serves) and the vegetable medley - It was a creation so I don’t believe it had a name - but had broccoli, cauliflower, etc in it. That said - those are just matters of taste - the food looked beautiful, great presentation, and I did taste all of the dishes. The main issue I had was the service time - 15-20 minutes between courses - it took us 2.5 hours to eat the full 6 courses plus desert. I was seeing plates of chicken, Ribeye, salmon - all gorgeous presentation and smelling wonderful walking by - all whilst waiting for our small plate of food every 15 minutes. Probably the biggest kick in the teeth was the main course of hanger steak came at the 2 hour mark and was RAW. Not rare - RAW (but charred black on the outside). I LOVE rare beef - my preferred level as a matter of fact. We did get food and left feeling satiated - but frustrated as a good portion of our evening was gone. On a side note - the wine pairings seemed a bit strange - but also admittedly- that is a matter of personal taste with some objective arguments to be made. The front of house service was EXCELLENT, attentive, personable, but not intrustive. Bottom line - I will come back - just not order the...
Read moreA few weeks ago Fargo was hit by torrential rains that flooded the kitchen of Rosewild, a restaurant in the iconic Jasper hotel in the heart of Fargo. Fortunately for me this past weekend brought the community out to the downtown area to enjoy street fare versus making plans to visit Rosewild.
Upon entering this beautiful building, you know that all of your senses will be delighted. The decor was absolutely beautiful. My partner and I were greeted by a server who immediately asked how many were in my party. I told her two and she proceeded to ask did I have reservations, as the restaurant is busy at this time.
I looked around at an almost empty dining area, confused by the statement. I stated that I did not have a reservation, and that the Rosewild website suggests reservations but does not require them.
The hostess responded with I have to find a place to seat you. By this time I have scanned the room and counted a total of 14 patrons, 16 if you include the young ladies on the terrace enjoying cocktails.
Begrudgingly, the hostess found an amazing table for my partner and me in a sea of empty tables. We were greeted by a very friendly server who made great menu recommendations. We also spoke with the manager on duty regarding the exchange at the hostess podium.
The manager apologized and explained that normally on a Saturday after the restaurant is busier and reservations are recommended. However, if we arrive during a busy hour, bar seating would be offered or potentially seating in the lounge area until a table became available.
At the recommendation of the server, I ordered the burnt pork belly, Jasper Old Fashion, and the hanger steak. I overly enjoyed the Jasper Old-fashion and steak. The pork belly was delicious but the creama and corn took away from the dish. I would have preferred simply pork belly topped with an Asian inspired pickled slaw.
Overall I would return for the attentive server, hanger steak, and Jasper...
Read moreI really wanted to give a good review since I booked the hotel considering that place. unfortunately, most of my experience with them was bad.
Been there 3 times total and that's the story:
Day 1- ordered cocktail that not shown in the menu and salmon fish plate. The drink was amazing, but the food however delayed so long (40min to 1 hour) while it was pretty empty. they always asked for more time.. when I got the salmon had strong smell that indicates it's not fresh but everything else tasted great. Maybe that was the reason for the delay. They gave the food for free without me asking and apologized and that is the reason why it's not 1 star rating.
2.day 2- went there for breakfast, ordered cofee and food manu. There was nice girl there that made really good cofee, but no one else. Se had to make cofee for so many people that she couldn't take my food order for all the time I stayed. No one else been there to order my food and I had to leave to the office without eating. Not the nice girl fault but her managers that try to save money on people.
3.day 2 evening - came back and ordered same out of the manu cocktail and hanger steak. That day was the main reason I'm not recommending that place.
The drink day before priced at 13$ that considered expensive in fargo, but it was out of the manu so it was ok. On the second time he charged me 18$!! I told him that it cost 13$ day before and he said that what it is. Didn't like the bartender attitude at all.
The food- I got tiny steak that I can describe as big shame for them. I'm sorry but even in my city (Manhattan NYC) I'm getting double size steak for that 34$ price. Had too much salt on it but...
