North Dakota Not likely to be in your top ten travel destination wish list. Come for the 50 mph winds, stay for the fish tacos... Hear me out... If you’re familiar with The North Dakotan landscape, maybe you don’t find this surprising. While North Dakota is famous for its fresh water fish, the walleye, I’d argue they’re rarely prepared in the form of a fish taco. Walleye wasn’t what I was here for...
What would posses a man to order Mahi Mahi fish tacos, 2942.193 miles from the nearest ocean?
A matter of circumstances, a Sunday afternoon in the trendy historic downtown district of Fargo, ND. A tight timeline due to a reservation at our first ever escape room, followed by a 6 pm flight. Options quickly dwindled, everywhere was full, over COVID capacity, or otherwise unhelpful.
We landed on a pizza joint, called spicy pie, the plot thickens... what would posses a man to order Mahi Mahi fish tacos at a pizza joint in North Dakota?
I honestly can’t explain that part... but fish tacos are kind of thing for Pam and I.
Let me tell you about the best fish taco I’ve ever had, in my entire life. Normally I prefer a grilled fish taco, this is where Pam and I disagree, she says the only way to go is fried, it’s a matter of crunch. In this case, I have no choice but to agree.
The golden brown coated Mahi Mahi, the delectable sauce, the salty banana peppers, the pineapple pico de Gallo, the warm tortilla. Culminated in a culinarily celebration of crunch that cannot be compared to any other fish taco on the planet. So confounded by the cataclysmic complexity of the compounding flavors, I forgot to even capture a pic.
Next time you find yourself in Fargo, ND, don’t leave without a stop at spicy pie, order the Mahi Mahi Fish Tacos, I promise you won’t be...
Read moreWhile traveling through Fargo I visited the downtown area with my family to check out the river and the old town area. I stopped in to Spicy Pie to get a sandwich to eat. I ordered a build your own sandwich and asked for salami and ham and all the veggies available. The gentleman working the counter informed me that it would be a dollar for the vegetables. I said “that’s no problem “. When I looked at my receipt I noticed that I was charged a dollar for each vegetable that they had put on it. I was charged 19$ for this sandwich. when I informed them that I was unaware that they had meant a dollar for each vegetable they said it’s the way they do it there. After inquiring with three individuals who checked with a man(ager) who didn’t leave his chair in the back, they said that was how they did it there. An employee there then realized they could switch it to veggie sandwich with meat added. they then said they would reverse the charge and apply the new lower charge for my sandwich. I checked my account just now and I have paid for both. The overpriced sandwich charge has not been reversed and I have now paid for two sandwiches (i only had 1) one charge for $19 and the other charge for $11. they both went through my account. I do not live in Fargo so they did not lose me as a customer because most likely would not be there again, but I am deeply bothered by the fact that I was charged $30 for a sandwich and i discourage anyone from going there unless you like paying for extra sandwiches that you do not get and overpaying for the sandwich that you do get. i rate this a one on purpose. There is no way to rate a zero. I eat out often and have never found both the food and the mishandling of my transaction to be so utterly...
Read moreMy family and I are visiting Fargo and needed a quick dinner. After seeing mostly good reviews we landed on this restaurant, especially since they have GF crust. I called to ask a question about their GF crust because of a food intolerance, and the girl gave a long pause before saying she didn’t know and would ask someone. I could hear her speaking to someone else on the phone, and heard him say “tell her we don’t know.” When she came back to the phone to tell me that, I asked if she could check with the kitchen and she just repeated the answer. I was super unimpressed with this - someone working there should be able to answer questions about their food. Allergies/intolerances are so common, and they were less than helpful.
We ended up still ordering from here because we needed something fast, and we regretted it. The food was all cold, they forgot the sauce on my son’s flatbread and it was basically a cracker crust, they didn’t give me salsa with my nachos and charged extra for a tiny packet of sour cream. Disappointing to say the least and we wouldn’t go back here. My husband also didn’t receive great service when he went to pick...
