One evening, I found myself at a place known as Waffle House, a humble establishment in the midst of a bustling town. As I entered, I observed the light flickering above, and the sounds of clattering dishes filling the air. I approached the counter, and there I encountered a woman, wearing an apron and holding a menu, who greeted me warmly.
“What is this place?” I asked, for I had never before seen such an establishment.
“It is a place of nourishment,” she replied. “Here, we serve food to those who seek sustenance, whether in body or in spirit.”
“Ah,” I said, “but what is the nature of sustenance? Is it not that which sustains us not only in the body, but also in our thoughts?”
She seemed taken aback for a moment, then nodded, understanding the depth of my inquiry. “Perhaps, sir, but I have not known the food here to provide much more than a temporary solace.”
I considered this carefully and then ordered the hash browns, for they appeared to be the very substance of this place. “Let us see if these hash browns can provide the sustenance that your words suggest,” I said.
As the dish was placed before me, I observed the hash browns: they were scattered, smothered, and covered—an arrangement that struck me as a metaphor for life itself. Do we not all come into the world scattered in our thoughts, smothered by our desires, and covered by the weight of our concerns?
I looked at my companion, who had brought me this meal. “Tell me, my good friend, what is the nature of this dish? Is it not a reflection of our lives?”
She paused, then replied, “It is as you say, perhaps. But, it is a dish that comforts, even if for only a moment.”
“And does not every comfort, however fleeting, lead us to question what we truly need?” I asked, taking a bite.
“Perhaps,” she said, “but for now, perhaps the question is not about what we need, but what we want.”
I considered her words, for it seemed that the answer lay not in a grand philosophical pursuit, but in the simple act of being present. The hash browns were indeed comforting, and the tea, sweet and warm, reminded me of the pleasures of life’s simplicity.
So I ate, and in doing so, I found that the most important question is not always the one we ask, but the...
Read moreabout 9:30 am 2/12/24 Whoever the cook is working at this location, on this shift, needs to be fired- he clearly hates his job. Made an online order for the all star, my grandma just passed away on Saturday and I've been taking it kind of hard, haven't been able to leave the house yet. I noticed you can't make mods online, and I absolutely hate floppy bacon, so I thought no problem I'll just call them to let them know ahead of time. Well, they don't accept phone calls, the same message plays on repeat: "order online". Okay. I'll tell my boyfriend to ask if they can just cook the bacon a little longer when he goes to pick it up, explain we had already tried online. Boyfriend comes back and says apparently, this was too much to ask for for this cook. The ladies at the front, beautiful kind women according to him, but he noticed when they'd asked him to cook it longer, he looked at my boyfriend, then looked at the manager and said "Why am I remaking it", complaining and having an attitude to the point that my boyfriend offered to go back there and cook it himself, as he is also a cook at another restaurant. So to hear all this when he gets back, and when I open the to-go, still get floppy bacon? Crispy bacon does not fold, it will snap apart- this bacon folded. Not to mention the toast was burnt yet still somehow floppy too?? It's ridiculous. And forget about calling to get your money back, there's no way to reach a human being over the phone. All I wanted was a nice breakfast while going through a really hard time, I usually love Waffle House, but this was the biggest disappointment. The only good thing about the meal was the waffle, I want my money back for the soggy toast and...
Read moreWaited for 10 minutes before being seated. I was the only one waiting. Employees were too occupied complaining about the next shift not coming in on time, blaming the manager, and verbally refusing to service tables. Building was also freezing inside. Very uncomfortable. I realize it's a Waffle House, and I shouldn't expect much, but this place was a zoo. The server Marie was the only one willing to actually help me, and apologized. There was a girl with glasses and a pony tail yelling at everyone, making everyone in the building feel uncomfortable. Outside of Marie this aided in every other employee joining in the uproar, yelling at each other. The manager did nothing to stop all this, just stayed at the grill. The food was standard for what I'd expect, except someone shoved their thumb into my waffle. I did not see who, but picture attached. Really hoping it wasn't the girl with the extremely long fake nails touching other people's waffles with no gloves. Honestly, the entire staff of this location needs turned over, including the manager, with the exception of Marie. I'm here on professional travel, manage a business in my home state, and there is absolutely no way I'd pay employees to act like these people were. I don't make many reviews, but the company needs to know...
