Our party of four were the only ones in the restaurant. We stopped in around 8:00 p.m. for a late dinner. Service was great! Our server was very pleasant. We ordered cheese bread which was prepared Napolitano (Sicilian) style, which means on a very thin crust that was perfectly cooked with just enough of a crunch to compliment the softness of the dough. Think of it as a soft, thin pita type bread with a little crunch, but not at all hard like a saltine cracker. The mozzarella cheese that topped the bread was perfectly cooked...not too hard, but soft and warm. The marinara sauce served with the bread was also delicious! The size of the order of bread was very generous and easily satisfied the four of us.
As we were trying to decide which type of pizza we wanted, the waitress advised us that we could get a 1/2 and 1/2, which we did. We settled on a large-(they should just call it huge, it was so big-with 1/2 Red style with sauce & mozzarella. We added mushrooms and bacon. The other half was fresh style which comes with sauce, mozzarella and basil to which we added meatballs. Again, the pizza was served thin crust, as is all of their pizzas. There is no option for a deep dish or regular crust pizza. Our pizza was delicious! There was more than enough to satisfy the four of us and myself and the other guy can put away some serious pizza! There were even a few pieces leftover, which we boxed up and brought home!
Pricing for the bread sticks was $10 for the cheesy bread and only $2 more than regular breadsticks and well worth it. The pizzas vary in price for anywhere from $10 for a small to $24 for a large crab topped pie. The pizzas come plain. Toppings are extra at $1.50 each on a small pie and $3.50 on a large one.
The cost for the four of us, including soft drinks, cheesy bread and a large 1/2 & 1/2 pie was $43. With tip, we got out the door for $52. Somewhat pricy for a pizza dinner, but it was something deliciously different and definitely at the top end of the spectrum from your $5 Little Caesars pizza and greasy crazy bread!
The ambience and decor of the restaurant is quite nice. The booths are huge and can easily seat a group of 6 adults. They also have a fresh sald bar available at an additional cost.
While we won't be frequent customers, we will be back! I highly recommend it for a pleasant and unique experience. Think of it as a Tony Sacco's without alcohol and nothing but thin crust pizza. Nice if you have a large...
Read moreThe pizza is quite good, but doesn't come anywhere near to living up to the hype from so many reviews on here. Countless reviewers say it's the best pizza in Michigan. It's not. Not even close.
I reviewed it as three stars for the following reasons:
1: Price. The pizza came to $30 delivered for a large two topping pizza, not including the tip. The quality just doesn't justify the price. The crust is EXTREMELY thin. This is important for two reasons: the first reason being that they slather the pizza in so much sauce. This could have been a bigger problem, but their sauce is good. There's just too much of it.
2: Quality control. I had my pizza delivered to my apartment, which is only a few minutes drive from the restaurant. Even so, the pizza was incredibly cold. More so than can be attributed to the drive alone; it mist have sat out for a while. Also, as is shown in the picture, the pizza was very burned. It was not just the edges; that extends to much of the crust underneath the pizza. Sadly, 1/3 of the pizza was inedible. 1/3 of a $30 pizza. I will assume that this isn't typical, and the average customer doesn't receive burnt pizza (even though I've already read two other reviews that say the same). Mistakes happen in the kitchen, but I would expect the pizza to have to pass a basic quality control check before it's dumped in a box and shipped out the door.
So in summary... Three stars because of the poor quality control of a relatively high price for pizza that is above avearge, but not mind-blowing as other reviews suggested. I would have given four stars had it been a little cheaper and wasn't 1/3 inedible.
It will be remembered for it's price, not...
Read moreDo you like Pizza loaded with fresh ingredients end to end with a delicious chewy and crispy thin crust, slightly burnt on the edges? I don't like it, I LOVE IT! OK then, get to the Tomatoes Apizza buffet M-F before noon, it gets crowded. Tomatoes can handle it. The Salad bar is stocked. There is also pasta, soft drinks and a piadina for desert... that's a nutella like deliciously filled dough-ey desert (if you can save room!) ...but let's talk more about the main course... the Apizza. I can not say enough about it. I am getting hungry thinking about it. You must try it to believe it. Do yourself a favor, come with an open mind and an appetite. And the buffet, what a steal! I't only like 8 bucks!? Bring a friend. Sit with a view of the brick arched window, where the cooks are putting out a variety of super hot pies. You wont believe the variety either. Something for every pizza lover to be sure. My favorites are: pepperoni, sausage, bacon, anchovy, hot peppers, krab... they also have a variety of veggies, and sauces besides the classic red. Don't see what you like? Ask them to make it, they will. Tomatoes is open late, they deliver, and they rock! Pizza and Salad bar = Awesome! Buffet Price=unbelievably low! Service= Impeccable! Well done Tomatoes, well done. It's in my rotation for sure. The pride of Farmington Hills. They do have another location, I've never been there, I hear it's...
