The tldr of this review is: you'll pay for your food whether you eat it or not (or whether it is edible or not).
Over the last 8 years that my wife and I have eaten at Little Bangkok it had been one of those restaurants where I never had a bad meal. Is it the best Thai food in town? There's probably better but the dishes here have been pretty solid. Tonight's dinner, unfortunately, both the appetizer and the entree were pretty bad and the response to my complaint was a learning experience.
First, if you like Thai spring rolls that are 98% shredded lettuce, Little Bangkok has you covered. There were supposed to be shrimp in there, and I did find a couple of what looked like pieces of baby cocktail shrimp hiding in the lettuce but a menu calling these shrimp spring rolls greatly oversold their shrimpiness.
Second, while the salt and pepper squid has been my go-to appetizer for years, I cannot recommend the salt and pepper squid entree -- at least not if the chef who was working this evening is going to be the one to prepare it for you. The squid, although white and cooked some, was squishy and the breading was whitish and moist.
My learning experience came when I pushed the dish aside after one piece of squid. I told our waitress that I didn't think this was properly cooked. She took my plate back to the kitchen and returned to tell me that in the chef's judgment it was properly cooked and I was wrong. As she started to tell me how their squid should taste, I politely interrupted and mentioned that we had been customers since the early 2010s and I regularly got their salt and pepper calamari appetizer so I knew how they usually make their squid. She asked if I wanted to buy a different entree but at that point my wife was over half done her meal (it took a while to flag the waitress down in the nearly empty restaurant) so I said no.
When the check came my entree was still on it. So the moral of this story is that Little Bangkok will make you pay for your meal whether it is...
Read moreMy friends and I went in to order takeout today. The waiter who greeted us at the door looked as if he did not even want to take our orders. After he took our order with the most irritable look on his face the whole time he told us it would take 20 minutes for us to get our food. 20 minutes was ok we had been studying on campus and just wanted to grab something quick to go back to our studies. We waited 45 minutes outside then finally went inside to see if we can check up on the order. We sat down waiting inside 3 waiters walked passed us and said nothing. We had one who asked us if we wanted something to drink while we waited, which was very nice of him. We continued to wait 20 more minutes for a total wait time of a little over an hour, mind you, the place was not even full. After an hour I decided to ask the next waiter I see to check on our food to see if it’s going to be coming out anytime soon. One of the waiters walked by and I politely said excuse me to get his attention, he walked passed me as if he did not even hear me. He walked passed a second time and I said excuse me again a little louder because maybe he actually didn’t hear me the first time, he looked at me looked away and kept walking. That was the last straw and we decided to just get up and leave. I don’t know if this was because we were three litttle black girls walking into their restaurant or what but we were very hurt and confused as to why we received this kind of service. We never got to try their food but I can honestly say their customer...
Read moreI recently dined at Little Bangkok with a sizable group of 24 people, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate our large party, ensuring that we were seated comfortably and served promptly.
One notable aspect of our visit was the restaurant's attentiveness to food allergies. They took the time to inquire about dietary restrictions within the group, demonstrating a commendable commitment to customer well-being. The waitstaff was not only knowledgeable about the menu but also adept at suggesting alternatives for those with specific dietary needs.
Moreover, the level of politeness exhibited by the entire staff was truly commendable. Despite the challenges posed by our group size, the servers remained courteous and efficient throughout the meal. It's evident that Little Bangkok places a premium on customer service.
The cleanliness of the restaurant also deserves mention. The dining area was well-maintained, contributing to a pleasant and hygienic atmosphere. This attention to cleanliness adds an extra layer of comfort to the overall dining experience.
In conclusion, Little Bangkok exceeded expectations in catering to our large group, addressing food allergies with expertise, and maintaining a clean and inviting environment. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking a delightful dining experience with a group or even for a cozy meal for two. Kudos to the team at Little Bangkok for a...
