I'm writing this review pretty late, but around 2 years ago my friend and I came in for dinner. Everything was good until when we took the check and walked up to the register to pay, and halfway there I felt a hand really forcefully grab my shoulder near the neck from behind.
This was not a light/friendly touch, it genuinely felt violent like you're trying to subdue or detain someone. My alarm bells go off immediately and I kind of seize up especially because I have no idea what's going on. My friend and I were both 17-18 year old girls and naturally wary of being touched by strangers. Turning around, I see that it's a worker (tall, heavyset middle-aged man) followed by a few other men who worked there. I tried to pull away, but while keeping his death grip on my shoulder he hooks his arm around and pulls me into his side while laughing all buddy-buddy as if we're sharing a private joke or something. Anyone else could have seen it and thought he was just being overly friendly, but again considering the intentional force it's unlikely he just "didn't realize" how rough he was being to the point that my shoulder still physically hurt hours later.
He let go of me when we reached the register stand and went around to present the card reader. My friend later said maybe they thought we were trying to leave without paying, which made the most sense although it was still really inappropriate to lay hands on me at all, much less as aggressively as he did. Even if it looked that way there was no "hey excuse me" or "hey wait a sec", straight to using physical force before we even reached the register. I regret not saying anything about it at the time, but it was such a bad experience I haven't returned since. No idea if this dude still works there. It's unfortunate because I did like the shrimp fajitas and street tacos very much, but El Mezcal is a better authentic locally-owned Mexican spot in my book if anything just because I've never had an experience with them physically intimidating a random...
Read moreJust moved to Tennessee , Dandridge from Washington,,, in June 2022 been trying different Mexican restaurants Saying Authentic Mexican food but been disappointed time after time. Its the CHEESE? it has to be cheddar....NO More dang white Mystery Queso dumped on everything you ask any server and they look like a deer in headlights and a little befuddled when you ask what kind of cheese they use? American, White??....The Taco Boy food was the best blend of flavors there was real enchilada sauce on the Cheddar cheese Enchiladas....I usually judge Mexican food by their Chips & Salsa...Plenty Onions, Cilantro, Garlic , Tomato's with homemade Corn Tortilla Chips....we chowed down on those and it was almost empty the quickly brought more Salsa and Chips without asking....
Real white meat chicken in Tacos & Flautas/Taquitos. and the portions were more than ample. I can’t praise them enough. Made our day!!

Read moreThis has to be one of my best hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurants! You might struggle with choosing between the Cuban restaurant right next door or a cup of coffee but Taco Boy is definitely the better choice.
The venue is rather small inside almost reminding you of a waffle house but if you can get a seat at the bar or you have to wait it is definitely worth it. I would recommend something on the menu but almost everything is good especially with arroz y Frijoles (Rice and Beans)
All the servers are bilingual and can help you and guide you through the menu if you're not sure what a dish might be or consist of. The drink specials are quite amazing and alcohol never runs out at this unlimited bar. If you need something strong for "one of those days" definitely ask for a cocktail strong (fuertes) and I've definitely noticed that they have some of the strongest drinks around town.
Bathrooms here aren't bad but it is weird because you do have to walk by the kitchen to reach them.
A great starter for you would be the chips and queso I know it seems very basic but this queso is beyond amazing. If the cheese is too strong for you then complimentary bean dip is given. Either is a Euphoria of yummy!
Take your time, don't be in a rush and definitely enjoy the culture, spirit and atmosphere of this small and easily passed Mexican restaurant....
