OMG I'm not even sure how to get started with this Diner, we walked in to the Black Bear Diner a little earlier for our assigned seating and we were immediately greeted by at least 4 staff members it was a little shocking at first but they were all super friendly..
so we got seated and within 2 minutes of being seated we were given our awesome looking newspaper menus and were explained the menus. After that was finished we figured out what we wanted to drink, I was so excited that I was able to get Mountain Dew ice cold, and my brother was able to get his Dr. Pepper, so once we ordered our drinks, we noticed that the entire establishment was clean, there was even a large Bear Plush it was so cool!
So shortly after we got our drinks, we had some servers come around giving us free samples of the most amazing Bread Pudding with Pecans, I really wish I could have asked for more!, so we ordered our food shortly after we got the samples, we had already figured out what we wanted for breakfast so I got The Volcano and oh my lord when I say the portion sizes are awesome I do mean it! Out came 3 Really large Sweet Cream Pancakes, 2 Large Slices of Sweet and Savory Bacon, One large Sausage Patty, Scrambled Eggs on TOP of my pancakes?! I don't remember what the name of what my brother got, but his came out as a large portion of Hash Browns, Two extremely loathing biscuits with sausage, and eggs all covered in the most amazing looking gravy
So we started eating and everything was so good, the Pancakes were seriously the most delectable and tasteful Pancakes I've ever had, the Eggs were the juiciest and best eggs I've ever tried they were even cooked the way I liked without even having to ask for them that way! The Bacon were long and not greasy to the touch but when actually eating them they were juicy and crispy they were so tasty! The Sausage Patty and the Bacon were probably my favorite part of the whole dish, they both were so good! My brother also enjoyed his food, though he's already had Bears before so he kind of already knew it was this good! While we were eating they even brought out little samples of Chocolate Brownies and oh my god they were the smallest but most sweetest and chocolaty brownies I've ever tasted I could have never asked for anything more better then those brownies for a little mid-meal sweet tooth!
So we finally finished what we could eat of our plates and we were given these Black Bear Diner Fan souvenirs! And I love that we got to keep the menus, the service was great, before we even finished our drinks we were brought refills they even gave me another glass of syrup which I was so happy about! They gave us the receipt immediately as well, they were perfect, the waiter we had enjoyed to talk and have discussion, if I would have had cash on me, I definitely would have given at least a $30 or $40 tip, we were even able to get to go boxes that were decent sizes, and when we were leaving, they greeted us saying bye, I felt so full I almost couldn't...
Read moreFirst, and foremost, Jose, the manager is sterling. He is extremely friendly, truly cares about customers, and is on top of things.
Four of us (2 couples) went to the Blackbear on 11/11/24 for breakfast. We were seated in the last both booth in the second tier/section behind the cashier. After we were seated a waitress -- an older woman who was morbidly obese -- approached our table and asked what we wanted to order. She was extremely abrupt and rude to two of us. After the waitress left with our order, one person at our table commented on how rude the waitress. We all concurred that the waitress was not only rude, and acted as if our mere presence was an inconvenience to her. When she returned with the meals she was on the verge of being hostile.
Within seconds Jose appeared and asked if he could help us. We all simply said "no" as we were focused on the food in front of us. Just after he said, "If you need anything just let me know," I commented The waitress was rather rough." Jose said, "I noticed that. IF you need anything jusrmt let me know." From that point forward he brought us refills of coffee, asked how the food was and was extremely friendly and nice.
If my wife and I hadn't been with our friends, I would have cancelled my meal, gotten up, and left due to the waitress' nastiness.
Anyhow, Jose was very solicitious of our needs and made us feel completely welcome, which was totally antithetical to the tone of the waitress.
All four of us have frequented The Blackbear in Fayetteville numerous times, both as a group and as single couples and have always been impressed with the friendliness of the waitresses. So it was a real disappointment to be confronted by the waitress who waited on us initially
To make matters worse, after Jose kindly took on the role of waiter for us the original waitress glared at us and dramatically shook her head. We didn't mention that to Jose as we simply wanted to enjoy our meal. Plus, Jose managed to buoy our moods so we figured we'd just ignore the waitress.
All of this is to say, Jose's actions were extremely appreciated by all of us. So much so that if we continued to to be waited on by the original waitress none of us would have returned to the waitress. In fact, one person in our group, asked the rest of us planned to ever return to the restayrant, and I replied, "Heck yes, Jose is the best!" Our friend, Ann, added, "We just need to avoid the section handled by the nasty waitress."
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Read moreI would like to state that my family and I have eaten at several BLACK BEAR DINERS across the country, from the flagship at Mt. Shasta up and down California and across the country to include Broken Arrow, OK and now Fayetteville, AR. We are very familiar with the Diner, have enjoyed many meals with the Diner but this last visit was the exception. Date-09/28/2023 We entered the diner at 3:35 PM for an early diner and waited to be seated. We asked for a table rather than a booth, at which point the hostess pointed to an upper level and said 'anywhere up there is fine. We ascended the stairs and selected a table and waited for a server. After we ordered our meals and were served our drinks, we browsed the menu and checked all the Black Bear Diner locations we had visited until our meals began arriving a plate at a time. As we began sampling each item on our plates my wife immediately remarked that her baked potato was not completely cooked. She asked the young girl who had brought it out if she would ask the cook to place it in the microwave to cook it through. The young girl left with the half baked potato. As I began chewing my hash browned potatoes, I did just that, chewed and chewed each bite. The appearance was unlike any hash browns I had been served before. My thought was 'left over breakfast potatoes.' My son had ordered a Chicken Fried Steak dinner and received a large salad prior to his dinner arriving. It WAS Large. However, when his dinner arrived and he began eating that, he was very disappointed in the steak. He said that it was nothing short of a frozen steak, heated and covered in gravy. As we finished our meals the server asked if we would like to have dessert. We have always enjoyed the Diners desserts so we all determined we would each have cheesecake and asked that it be prepared as a 'to go' order. Arriving back at our hotel later in the evening, we determined to partake of our cheesecake. The flavor did not disappoint, but the portion size did. The portion size was about half the size that we had received a couple of months ago in Broken Arrow, OK. Almost $30 each for a disappointing meal caused me to give the lowest score I have EVER given to a...
