First and last time at Cheers. I got sick 20 or so minutes after leaving. I had coffee hours earlier and nothing else in between my visit. I ordered the Crab cake Benedict because it’s my favorite dish at another restaurant. It was $16 and came out as shown in the pictures. It tasted off-putting and reminded me a little of cat food. No. I’ve never had cat food personally but that’s what I imagine it tastes like. My waitress took forever service us. We waited at least 20-25 mins for her to take our order but she had put in an appetizer. I even set the menus stacked on top at the end of the table as a sign. When the food finally came out (mine was not warm as it would be if it were just cooked). I was honest about how I felt about the food and the reply was “well, it is crab cake!” Now if it usually tastes the same in other restaurants then I think I’ll pass but again, at my favorite place it’s my favorite thing to order because of the delicious taste and texture. She offered to take it off and get me something else but look, she had already had been giving us very poor service. She was upset by what I said and I could tell. She offered to get me a salad and I said yes thank you. let’s just do that. I was telling myself not to eat anything that came out after I had been very honest about the food. I wasn’t mean about it because I don’t like to hurt feelings or get into conflicts. 🙄 anywho, I did eat the salad with the dressing she suggested and it was pretty good. She never refilled the water and we were super thirsty but I didn’t want to wait another 10 minutes. We got out of there. 20 or so minutes later the sickness hit me. So, I’m not directly blaming them for purposely getting me sick because I can’t really prove that. But that was all enough for me to not come back. She didn’t take it off but didn’t charge me for the salad, bless her. Give it a try if you like but it just wasn’t a good experience for me. I’m pretty upset about it. Freaking got sick. Photos:
DINNER REVIEW
This place gets a 4 vs. a 3 for the overall setting plus the carrot cake.
I moved from Fayetteville around a year ago so this was my first time experiencing it and I had heard mixed reviews. Some who had gone on opening weekend said that the dinner took 3 hours (which I will cut them slack for on opening weekend) but others have raved about it. I wanted to have an opinion of my own.
SETTING: This place is beautiful, inside and outside. It's in the old post office right in the middle of the Fayetteville square which already adds an old school, cool factor. The inside is huge and has several different rooms all covered in wood. I'm glad they kept a lot of what was likely the old post office aesthetic.
FOOD: Overall, good, but some things were better than others. The menu is a little too big for my liking but it has some unique options so I could definitely come back and have a completely different meal.
I had the Kobe burger with a side of Chipotle Mac N' Cheese. The burger was good but not the best I've ever had. It was a good size. The Chipotle Mac N' Cheese was very cheesy but I just wish it was a bit spicier. It just felt like normal Mac N' Cheese.
The best thing I had was the carrot cake for dessert. I LOVE carrot cake and this was one of the better ones I've had. The icing was perfectly sweet and the cake was moist.
SERVICE: Unfortunately, this was lacking. Our waitress asked some awkward questions like "OK so what time do you think I should come back and check on you?" and dropped/shattered a couple of empty plates. We had to hunt her down to give her our check too. This is partly due to the fact that we were in one of the side rooms and she was covering the main room but still.
Overall, compared to what a place like this in Boston would cost, I think the prices are very reasonable so if I am ever back in Fayetteville, I...
