I wish that I could rate the food as amazing as I have in my pasts visits. But I was unable to enjoy a meal last night from Shogun Japanese Steakhouse in Fayetteville, NC. Due to the horrible service received yesterday evening when I stopped in to dine with my sister.
I explained to my sister prior to arriving at the restaurant some history that I had with the restaurant. Some years ago when Shogun first opened I was impressed by the ambiance and how nice it was inside the restaurant. But after the newness wore off some of the traffic to dine in died down. But I kept coming because I liked it and the convenient location. I would always take pictures of the artistic creation displayed on the sushi dishes that I ordered some years ago but couldn't tag the location because at that time, some years back, Shogun Japanese Steakhouse in Fayetteville, NC did not have a Facebook page. After I spoke with the owner's wife about how it would be beneficial to their business and their marketing efforts to create a business Facebook page because it was free marketing. I told her that they needed to create a Facebook for their business and post pictures of the food/dishes to appeal the local area and that it might help increase traffic and revenue. From the feedback I received from her some months after that conversation, when I returned with my mom. She told my mom that I helped her and the business. She also told my mom that I was a nice girl.
However that was some years ago and things are subject to change. On yesterday while with my sister a waitress came over to take our order. I explained that my sister and I both had allergies so we needed some time to make our selections carefully. The waitress said ok, told us to take our time while she put in the order for appetizers and that she would return. She returned in 10 minutes she brought appetizers for my sister. My sister and I had questions about a few items that we were interested in. She answered our questions after the feedback she provided on the dishes we decided we needed more time because the dishes would cause issues with both of our allergies. So she she would be back. After sitting for 45 minutes, the waitress comes back, looks at us and continues to walk past us. This happened 6 more times. We had been there almost an hour and she made no more effort to take our order.
The customers seated on the back side of our booth had finished their meals and she was very interested in their needs and overall their dining experience and I noticed that the interaction was different. The waitress asked them how they were once they completed their meals and how could she assist them further. After I noticed that my sister was upset I told her not to worry about it that I would approach the manager. As I got up to address the issue. The waitress noticed and approached the table where my sister remained. At the same time I was sharing my concerns with one of the staff. I told her that we wanted to pay for our appetizers and leave. The waitress did apologize once she saw that we were leaving.
I am hoping that this was not a race issue but I was very disappointed with the service and also that we were not even provided with the same cordial behavior or speedy service that the customers on the other side of the...
Read moreI had the opportunity to dine this evening at this establishment with 5 young black men that all attend Fayetteville State University. Throughout the entire meal these young men proceeded to fellowship and laugh and enjoy each other's company. They never once got loud and boisterous, used profanity or acted "ghetto" as people like to say. So at the end of the meal one of the young men noticed that the gratuity was added to all of their tickets and he asked the waitress about it and she told him that she was not sure because gratuity was only added if it was a party of six or more. The waitress gets the manager to explain why gratuity was added to the tickets and the manager comes to the table and makes up an excuse that it had recently changed and gratuity is now added to parties of five or more. However, she could not show them where this new policy was listed anywhere in the restaurant she stated what she had to say and proceeded to walk away from the table. Nevermind the current menu clearly says "Gratuity will be added on parties of 6 or more." So I decided to pay for the young man's bill, having been a college student myself I understand the struggles of being in college, he assured me that I did not have to do this and was very appreciative of the offer. I explained to him that it was okay I didn't feel like they were being treated fairly and I would like to take care of his meal this evening. After returning with all of the cards and the tickets for the young men, the waitress informs all of us that the manager told her that she (the manager) felt like they would not tip her so she intentionally added gratuity to their tickets. After expressing to the waitress that this was a very sad situation and that we eat at this establishment a lot and I will no longer return because these young men were being racially profiled, she was very apologetic to all of us and expressed her concern as well. Keep in mind that these young men still never stepped out of character even after being told what was done to them. It amazes me that even today people can still be so judgemental and racist. I stand firm behind my decision I will never return to this restaurant and I suggest that the manager issues a formal apology to these young men and that other people see what happened tonight for exactly what it was...racial profiling and think twice before supporting this type...
Read moreMy family and I arrived there at around 3:30 pm or so without a reservation to be seated. Although the restaurant was fairly empty at that time it took them a minute to seat us. Once we were seated and the server showed up she made us forget all about the wait. She was fantastic! Polite, attentive, and informative. She told us that since we were there early we should take a look at the early bird special, helped us choose the perfect sushi for our occasion, and even recommended the wonderful beverage to go along with it. *Note if you haven't had their drink called the Marijauna be careful. It is what my wife calls trouble. A delicious drink that you can't even tell has alcohol in it that goes down way to smooth and easy! Following our appetizers and drinks came our cook. There are a few tricks that those of us who have been to a hibachi restaurant would expect to see and he really came through. The egg fun, the onion train, the huge flames while cooking that almost reached the ceiling! He told us a little about himself while cooking my steak to perfection. There were only the three of us at the table, but he did the show like he was on the stage of America's Got talent. My wife, the picky eater, ordered the fish and was not disappointed. I have never seen her eat so quickly and happily at the same time. The look on her face alone would have earned this establishment 5 stars in my opinion, but it really was everything that made it a wonderful event. The service, the food, the overall experience was a five in our opinion. Please take the time and visit this treasure! P.s Happy birthday to the kiddo in video at the...
