Hard to figure how best to rate this one given a very mixed experience.
Our waitress was very helpful and genuinely seemed to be doing her absolute best to give us a good dining experience. That said she was badly let down by other staff.
Firstly, I prefer not to be seated near to small children simply because they have a tendency to make a lot of noise. So I asked the hostess for a table away from small children. Apparently this was too difficult a request for her because within a very short time we were surrounded by families with small children. Had the restaurant been busy I'd have been inclined to accept it as just one of those things but there were empty tables everywhere.
Then came the food. One dish came out stone cold, another came out with a very suspicious looking substance on it. Both went back to the kitchen. One came out again, still stone cold. By now we were faced with the question of whether the rest of us should go ahead and eat (rather trashing the whole point of eating together) or leave ours to go cold while we waited for fresh meals to be brought.
As I mentioned before the restaurant was far from busy and with that in mind the time it took to get our food seemed inordinately long, which was further compounded by the fact that even after waiting what seemed like an age we had to send half of the meals back and wait even longer for fresh ones to be prepared. I really struggle to see how they could cope if the restaurant were more than about 1/3 full. A nearby table had four people sitting at it and I could see they also sent two meals back.
Once the food finally arrived and everything was in order the quality was certainly fair enough for the price. The manager apologised in person and comped the meals that had had to be sent back. The waitress was obviously getting stressed at having so many problems to deal with, even though as far as we could tell none of them were of her making (we tipped her well for her efforts, for those that care). But everything was so badly let down by an apparent inability to get meals out at the same time while keeping everything hot. Crab isn't a meat I want to eat cold and it isn't a meat I want reheated. So 4 stars for the food, 5 stars for the waitress, and 1 star each for the hostess and...
Read moreYou can add a burger to the salad bar for $2 on the weekday lunch menu. They were pretty busy at 2pm on Saturday. Sadly, the ice cream machine broke around noon so the desert bar seemed much more limited. Cream of crab soup was great though! Lots on salad bar including an apple, almond, kale salad that was fresh and delicious. 4 of us ate and got drinks for $60.95 total. Still have the option to wear gloves to be a bit safer in covid times late July 2021 while selecting good from buffet area. Clean, cool restroom. Didn't realize how hot it was sitting next to the fireplace until going to restroom to feel the difference between there and our table. Do not suggest sitting near the chimney in the hot summer! The heat will creep up on you. But it was a good experience overall. Broccoli salad, potato, macaroni salads on bar, even some with chunks of steak in it. There's cowboy beans and macaroni and cheese asking with sorry nacho making ingredients like sour cream and salsa and taco meat and hot nacho cheese. There are 4 soups and breads and desserts like brownies and cookies and sundae ingredients. Totally recommend going here to eat, even if in a hurry or with a larger group. Get...
Read moreHoss’s is my go to place when my family comes up. They have plenty of good food and a very nice salad bar. I really enjoy the stuffed pepper soup that they have at the salads bar during the summer when it’s in season. The staff is also super friendly there is one man in particular that truly is a gem. I forgot his name unfortunately but will edit my review to add it because he needs more recognition. He helped us try some truly wonderful food and I have never once left hungry from here.
Now in all fairness there are places with better food but for the this price range it really is a steal. The way I would best describe it is as a mix between Texas Roadhouse and Applebee’s except more family friendly. If they ever decided to make a change I would love if they had some beer but it’s fine that they don’t.
Overall this spot would be good for a date because they have special deals for two or your family.
Food that I would recommend is the steak or their stuffed chicken. The salad bar is also always worth the the extra...
