I have only ever purchased from them at farmers markets.
The good: They have ruined any store bought english muffins for my son and I! The muffins are light and airey. The sourdough bread is fantastic, nice and rich with a good crust (makes amazing croutons if you find yourself with leftovers). We also enjoy the bagels (they are more on the firm side and dense, but the flavor is there). The foccassia is good and they have a decent variety of options. The cookies are a bit sweet for my personal taste but the crunch is nice. The cruffins are definitely a dessert item (light and fluffy, filled with sweet goodness and dusted with sugar. My son and I both wish they had a non sugared option as it's a bit overwhelming in the sweetness). Occasionally they will have their housemade croutons, which are also very tasty if you're not wanting to make your own.
The bad: My only cautionary warning is that the items are priced on the higher end and not accessible for everyone. ($10/loaf or $12/4 english muffins.) Their service is friendly at the market but it's definitely a grab your shit and go vibe, so if you're a talker this isn't the...
Read moreThis morning I made my first visit to the Balloon Roof Baking Company. I had intended to purchase some plain croissants, but when I walked in and saw the selection of pastries...things got out of hand. 😂
The viennoiserie - pastry made from laminated dough - is gorgeous, perfect, redolent of butter, and shatters into tiny shards when you bite into it. I was surprised, and delighted, to see that they render their cinnamon rolls in laminated dough, too - a creative idea that I had never seen deployed before.
The staff were kind, and took pains to package my purchase in a way that I could easily transport it home.
The pastries are not cheap (about $4 - $6 per piece for the ones I looked at and bought), but are definitely worth the prices charged. I picked up extra to share with neighbors, and I'm sure they'll love their...
Read moreAbsolutely OUTSTANDING bakery!! My husband and I arrived a little later (11:30) so most items were sold out. I purchased a couple of chocolate chip cookies (Incredible) and their highly recommended sourdough muffins. I mentioned to the gentleman helping me that we drove from North Seattle and that next time I would arrive earlier. He said hold on and went to the back and brought out an entire loaf of bread for me to take home. I thanked him for his generosity and went out to my car. A minute later he came back out with a bag full of bagels cream cheese and more cookies! I scarfed down the bagels and cream cheese, they were so good. I have yet to try the bread and English muffins but I have no doubt they will be spectacular. Please try this place, you will...
