Mill City Pub took the place of the Iron Horse on Airport Road in Fitchburg. They completely revamped the decor & the bar and it looks great! They offer a pretty decent selection of beers on tap that are chilled perfectly, the staff is very friendly and attentive, and the 2 times I've been there, they had great live music! Here is where they really need to work on some things in order to keep people coming back. The food is lousy and it's overpriced. The menu looks interesting with things like Wings with Infused Sauces using beer and or whiskey, Tin can Nachos, Fried Goat Cheese, Braised Pork Flat Bread, Tacos, Mac N cheese, etc...The execution of these things leaves much to be desired. The wings are not crispy at all, in fact, they were rubbery & cool to the touch. The "sauce" on the Barrel Blossom Wings tasted like apple sauce that was just dumped on top, making them cold. We also tried the Fireball wings that were were a little more palatable once we asked for some hot sauce to cover them up with, although they were still rubbery & chewy (We sent back the apple wings & they were removed from the bill because those were pretty awful). The Sweet Dream Flat Bread was nothing to rave about. It looked as if they tore 1 slice of cheese in sections & plopped it on the top of some pulled pork concoction, the tacos were probably the best things and by best I mean mediocre, and the "tin can nachos" is this gimmicky thing where they dump nacho fixens in a large can & the waitress lifts the can spilling the contents on a platter at your table. It's weird and messy and it was nothing more than tri colored tortilla chips with cubes of chicken that were burnt with some strange white sauce that made me think they were trying to do a Béchamel that honestly tasted like jarred Alfredo sauce. Most everything tasted processed and reheated. This was my second time eating there. I had a party of 3 with me the first time and a party of 4 the second time a few weeks later and we all agree, the food is just not good. I hope the owners take the criticism and use it to improve what could be a really good foundation for a successful local business! I would definitely go back to enjoy an ice cold beer and listen to some live entertainment, but until they do some big improvements on the quality of their food, I will not be...
Read moreWe were SO excited to have a brunch buffet in the area and just had to visit. The price was a bit steep, but was worth it if the food was good. At this price point, I usually expect either a smaller variety of particularly good food or decent food but a large variety of it. Unfortunately this buffet fails in both of those categories. For comparison, Hollis hills has a buffet slightly less than this price during sugaring season and has real maple syrup and several unique and interesting dishes. I'm actually frustrated that Mill City charges so much and delivers so little.
We arrived around 12 (buffet starts at 11 and goes for at least a few hours after). We went up to find most of the food trays empty or with hardened old food. All the meat was gone except for a few dry pieces of ham and a really sad looking piece of prime rib. Pancakes were hard on the bottom. Eggs Benedict was completely empty. You get the picture. We asked and they said there would be more food or shortly.
We get back to the table and run back to get utensils from the buffet. Except they were completely out of knives. Given the hard bottom on the pancakes, I ended up having to rip them by hand. I flagged someone to ask for knives and they said they were coming.
Then we realized we had no napkins. Had to flag someone down yet again to ask. They did deliver a few of those quickly.
Over the next 20 minutes food slowly came out. At about 25 minutes after we came, the prime rib finally came out. I can't fathom what took so long for that dish in particular.
All of the food was barely adequate. There wasn't anything particularly unique or especially tasty. Given the wait on getting food compared with the price, we would have been better just going to any of the breakfast joints and ordering a ton of food to make our own buffet.
When we were leaving, I brought my kids to the restroom to wash their hands and they were out of soap in both. Somehow I wasn't surprised.
We will not be repeating...
Read moreDONT EVER LEAVE A DRINK UNATTENDED! THEY WILL THROW OUT AND NOT RECIPROCATE!!!
I'm not one to complain, but I brought my best friend out after we both worked 14 hour shifts and took turns with the rounds. After the first round it was my turn and I paid in full upon delivery.
My best friend and I decided to follow protocol and step out to vape like good patrons and were thoroughly punished for doing so. Our drinks had been thrown out. (It would be one thing, if it was 4/5 of the way done but we had both taken small sips before stepping out leaving most of the drinks there behind us.)
I ordered a round of shots and informed the bartender of the mistake. As someone in the industry I understand quite well that these things can happen from time to time but instead of talking to me or taking care of the issue I was charged full price for the shots and "seemingly" intentionally ignored for the last 15 minutes or so that I was there.
I'd like to reiterate that I'm not one to complain and have been a patron there for almost a decade, but this rubbed me the wrong way.
I know a few of the staff, and the owner I've met on several basis, but I think it's terrible that they would throw out drinks and then double charge for any follow ups.
This isn't the way someone should handle hospitality as a buisness. And that's coming from an executive chef of a multimillion dollar business model.
I hope to hear back from them to resolve the issue. But at current standing it has disappointed myself and my company...
