This was the 1st time trying the place.. Told the owner I was new to area, seen the restaurant, and have been waiting for CoVid to clear up and try it out... Well I'm sorry to say, but I was severely disappointed 😞... Called for carryout, and upon doing so before I ordered I asked some basic questions like do you have this or that... Is it made like this or that because my wife likes her Chicken Shawarma the original Shawarma way...Not grilled chicken called Shawarma.. He says grilled..Okay not the way we like but we will try no problem...then I ask do you have Beef, or Lamb Galaba? He states he has both...I say well I would like Lamb...Ok he's says.. reads back order.. says Beef...I say no I wanted lamb..he says it's both Lamb, and beef mixed???? What??? Ok...that's weird, now it's sounds like I'm getting what's left over in the fridge, and it's being thrown together?? Idk... but w/e...I'll try it.. I pick it all up 30 mins later..pay 65$ for Chicken Shawarma with rice and house salad for 2 people dinner.. (1) additional chicken Shawarma sandwich on side for lunch next day..that's wife and daughters...(1) hummus side, and my entrée...(1)Beef/Lamb mixed??bwe 😕.. Galaba with rice, and fattoush salad.. asked a few basic questions while there... how long ya been here? Is this the Beef/Lamb special mix dish in this bag? Is there garlic and bread here also?? Oh yes everything is ready...So I tipped him and left... Get home wife, daughter's Shawarma was grilled like he Said...lots of 🐔 chicken but no flavor bad tasting rice. Bad tasting yellow hummus and house salad..garlic sauce..ehh...kinda hard to mess up garlic... My special Beef/Lamb galaba mystery entrée..!!!!NO MEAT!!! Are you kidding me??? No wait.. 2 small pieces of grilled chicken that got slopped into my dish and buried then 1 Maybe 2 thin sliced and fatty looking pieces of what looked like steak-ums, or a gyro sliced lunch meat from the deli or something buried under mountainous pile of potatoes, green pepper, mushrooms, rice, and what looked like maybe remnants of vegetables from last week that had been in fridge in order to apply the illusion of volume, and weight all mixed together lighty drenched in tomatoe sauce of some sorts.. Didn't taste bad... but wasn't anything I'd remember to go for again... But yes absolutely no MEAT!!! I realize this late into the night as I often eat later than everyone if I have extra work I try to catch up on before bed.. So Didn't find out till about 11pm midnight... Never again... all I know is that was a wasted 65$, and to the owner you should be ashamed of your self for even expecting someone to except that as a meal with the first word Beef or Lamb... You basically lied to me on the phone, and again to my face... You insulted me thinking I would accept this, even told me it's what you have for dinner as you favorite... Pathetic... Never again...I wrote this so 1st timers can have a chance to back out.. I didn't read reviews just glanced at you 4.3 rating and thought ok not bad...we will try it.. I am gonna come in, and make you aware of the insulting meals you made me in case you don't see this; and then politely leave never to come again... I also know this was no misunderstanding, or accident... I asked to many preemptive questions... You just don't care who ya get as long as ya get em...
Read moreAs someone who loves Middle Eastern food, Bashar's is a seriously inadequate substitute for the kind of food that can be found in the Dearborn area. Their hummus is awful, the garlic sauce is middling, and the over use of za'atar is astounding. I'm assuming the mix of dry spices that are added for effect are za'atar, but it could be a cheap mix of italian seasoning for all of the flavor that it adds.
The gallaba is decent, until the quarter cup of za'atar is dumped on top. I don't know if it's used to fancy up what looks like a plate of slop, or to cover up bad cooking, but I scrape off as much as I can.
The hummus, like I said is awful. I have never had hummus this color or consistency, and that wouldn't matter if the flavor was halfway decent. It isn't.
The so-called fattoush salad is just as bad.
I'm not sure how or why this restaurant is still in business, the second "Middle Eastern" restaurant flamed out after maybe a year. Flat Rock doesn't seem too interested in Lebanese cuisine, which I guess accounts for the bizarre mix of "American" food on the menu. If you're going to be an "American" restaurant, be an American restaurant. If you're going to be a Middle Eastern restaurant, do that...but do it well.
If you're willing to drive for really good Middle Eastern food, head to Garden City / Dearborn Heights / Dearborn.
Al Sultan on Inkster has amazing hummus, great shawarmas.
Ollie's on Ford has excellent everything. Get the roast veggies and hummus with sautéed chicken, yummmm.
Super Greenland market on Ford has excellent hummus and garlic sauce, and their packaged fattoush salad is better than most restaurant varieties.
I'm not sure how Bashar's manages to have decent reviews, other than maybe most of the reviewers have never had excellent Middle Eastern food. That's a shame cuz Bashar's seems willing to continue churning out mediocre food as long as the good people of Flat Rock continue to...
Read moreThis place is very nice place to enjoy a meal. The food is delicious, the portions are hearty, the owner is friendly always with a smile and a warm hello when you walk into the door. The restaurant is inviting and very clean, decor is warm and pleasing with cloth tablecloths covered with glass table tops. No worn down beat up booths you might normally find in some coney island and restaurants. I would call this place an upscale 5-star Coney Island, if there is such a thing... ha. The menu is diverse with something for everyone. We normally go for the Middle Eastern cuisine when we visit Bashar's and the food has always been delicious and Im not ashamed to say this place "stole" us from another well known Middle Eastern coney we used to visit regularly. The meat and chicken swarma is tasty, the hummus is flavorful, and the falafel is pretty dang good. Ive also tried a few of the American type sandwiches and I have yet to walk away disappointed. When looking through the appetizers, in addition to the hummus... also consider the fried pickles. Battered dipped dill spears with ranch dipped. I would drive out of my way for those pickles! More than once we will look at each other and say "Fried Pickles? Lets go to Bashars!" In additions to an assortment of smoothies and Pepsi products, they now also offer cocktails, beer and wine!!! Which is nice when you might like to enjoy a drink before dinner. I ordered a Bloody Mary which Bashar made himself and he spared no expense, generous in size, full of flavors. It was one of the best bloody marys Ive had in a while. I dont work for Bashar, these are all my honest opinions that I wanted to take the time to write a review bc I would really really like them to stay open for a long time....
