Very small place. Often extremely crowded and hard to get a drink if you don't know the bartender. Once you do have a drink, be prepared to enjoy it standing up. On one occasion my friends were able to procure a table and we all enjoyed some pretty darn good bar food with our drinks. We couldn't hear each other over the music and crowd noise. But, that's to be expected. I really have nothing truly bad to say about the Beachcomber itself. It's the impenetrable local cliques which are inclusive of the staff that make this place less than comfortable. While I don't drink often enough to be instantly recognized by a bartender (though I have been here almost a decade) I still expect to be served in a timely fashion as I would expect to be in any bar I might visit while traveling. I shouldn't have to wait while they serve their friends and regulars twice. Then wait some more as they work their way down through who is wearing the least and who is bellowing the loudest. All the while, making occasional eye contact as I wave for them or call, yet never offering so much as a, "be with you shortly." I realize it is a difficult job when things get busy. Nonetheless, it is a job that focuses on customer service. That should include all customers whether they're locals or tourists or just people like me who don't get out often enough to be friends with the employees of the establishments they visit. I guess if I want a drink there within the first 25 minutes, I cannot show up fully dressed and polite next time. Other options are...
Read moreWe used to go to Beachcomers regularly( a few times a month), thay have good beer and average pub food(we have had really good food sometimes and other times food that wasn't so great over the years) and we used to play TapTV trivia. I have even recommended Beachcomers to different people over the years. That has changed. It first started a few years ago when they took the fish sandwich off the menu, which frustrated my mother because that is what she would order every time. She is told she could special order it but that is a hassle, and fish tacos and fish n chips aren't the same. For a pub on the Oregon coast and who's very name is Beachcomers it is surprising they can't have a fish sandwich/burger. And resently they got rid of TapTV trivia. We really enjoyed TapTV trivia game, it was a fun diversion in what could sometimes be long waits to get your meal. Sometimes we would go to Beachcomers because we wanted to play TapTV trivia. The last time we went there we were kinda irritated because they have 8 or 9 TVs, and our meal come for over a hour, so why can't 1 TV be used for TapTV trivia??? We used to spend a hundred to two hundred dollars a month regularly for years going to Beachcomers. But now I don't see any reason to go there again especially without the fish sandwich and TapTV. And we definitely will not recommend anyone else...
Read moreMy burger was ... eh, good enough. It was a little too tall so it was messy to eat and difficult to fit in my mouth (which is a rare thing for me to come across ... It wasn't hugely detrimental but kind of a pain to eat). My girlfriend's sandwich, on the other hand ... She ordered a shrimp melt. It was noted as the "best" melt in the area on the menu. The scare-quotes should have been an indicator (as they are actually present on the menu). I think we read that and expected a hoagie with actual shrimp on it. What arrived was a grilled cheese sandwich on Wonder Bread with "baby shrimp". (OK, it may not have actually been Wonder Bread, but it was just basic sliced bread.)
It made me almost lose my appetite but I was starving so I pushed through. The one bite my girlfriend took did make her lose her appetite to the point she couldn't even touch the tater tots she got with it.
So this sandwich costs $12.50. After we mentioned it they deducted half the cost, but I feel they should not only have deducted the full amount, but I don't feel like they should have this sandwich on the menu if it's going to continue to be the same thing.
My burger was probably a 3/5, but the shrimp melt was a 0/5. Granting a...
