Went in for solo lunch after a stressful morning. Same people own this eatery as the ones that own Tubb’s in Florence. Interior of restaraunt is adorable with hand painted murals and rustic wooden tables. Atmosphere is truly lovely and there is ample seating.
Unfortunately I was seated by an extremely rude ponytailed waiter (failed to introduce himself) and when I politely requested to sit a bit further down in the booth section due to two very large tables next to where he wanted to seat me he was extremely rude and unwelcoming.
He responded to my request by sarcastically replying, “Well if you have to but you can’t sit at the T tops, we save those for our large parties.”
I politely explained that I only wanted to move down one space. There was lots of available seating in the restaurant with four large t top tables completely unoccupied and no line at the door the entire time I was there.
Menu has lots of choices but was a bit limited as far as Mexican choices in my opinion TBH. When I asked for a recommendation on the sushi my server (same man who seated me) acted as I were speaking Swahili. Not sure if he mistook me for a tourist and that was the cause of his rude and condescending attitude or not. Had to ask twice for a box for the rest of my food.
Ended up choosing the Volcano Roll and asked that they omit the tuna. By the way: Prices for their sushi is higher than Konnichiwa which is also in Florence and has extremely wonderful food, atmosphere, and highly friendly and professional waitstaff.
Volcano Roll was about as good as expected but sadly not amazing. The asparagus was an unexpected touch that added a nice texture to the roll. Sweet tea was ok. Eel sauce was more spicy than flavorful but was also ok.
Won’t be back due to the server and higher prices that aren’t justified by the taste. More of a tourist stop IMHO.
Do better King Jefe. Florence is well known for their friendly people and...
Read moreI normally don't give 5 star ratings, but everything about my visit was perfect. First of all, the atmosphere is just a really cool, eclectic, Mexican influenced spot. The artwork(mostly local) is perfect to highlight the more contemporary theme they are going for as a whole. So much attention is given to detail that even the table tops are repurposed boards that came from the exposed wood ceiling. The menu was first rate. It features a type of Mexi-Cali fusion with typical dishes like Tacos al Pastor with a more North of the border touch like pineapple salsa and cabbage. They are quite willing to customize the selections for food allergies or just to taste. Last, but certainly not least, the service(Sara was our server) was impeccable. She knew the menu in detail, being able to make suggestions and describe what the dishes were like and exactly what went in them. She was extremely friendly, quick and attentive. She was also able to tell us about the history and details of the location. We were also greeted and checked on by a manager who was also very friendly and pleasant. The last thing I will say is that the bargain for the quality of food, service and atmosphere was nothing short of shocking. It is hard to find even fast food for as little as we paid for a first class dining experience here. I can't...
Read moreThese aren’t the tacos you think they’re gonna be. Neither are the rice and beans. They’re a very American hipster approach to the dish, apparent by the references to Cali in the menu and the overall decor. The tacos are kinda small, and a little overpriced. I got the Dr. Mindbender and the Wookie. I definitely recommend the Wookie taco as it was interesting and delicious. The Dr. Mindbender was less good because there was way too many beans and they lacked flavor.
My sister, who isn’t vegan, managed to get a fish burrito, and she says it was pretty delicious and very filling. My mother got the lettuce wrap for her tacos, which she says was healthier but she would’ve rather had the tortilla, as the lettuce wraps were even smaller.
We also had the cactus salad, which was spicy. It wasn’t amazing. But it was better than the rice and beans. Perhaps it’s because I come from a Puerto Rican household where rice and beans are the staple dish, the rice and beans were...not good. I’d recommend getting the guacamole instead, which was very fresh and delicious.
The service was very good! Our waitress was attentive and another waitress joined in on a photo of my parents. That was really funny.
Also, the bathroom was very...
