Very unhappy with our recent experience at HGW. Firstly we waited quite a moment to be seated. Wouldn't have been too much of an issue, however staff members looked at us and looked away as if we were diseased. A simple, give us a moment or something said acknowledging the party waiting would have sufficed. By the time we were greeted and approached my party was already looking up alternatives, but we thought we'd give it a shot since she did come up. ( We also witnessed another customer experience the same events of waiting as if she had a plague. )
We were sat next to another table, no big deal but the tables were so close we were packed like sardines. I move my chair a little I'd hit the older person behind me. And then another table was sat adjacent, so if my party moved they would hit them. Not ideal, when there was plenty of open area to space us out even just a little but on the same side of the restaurant.
We ordered our food, and it just wasn't as good as we've had in the past here. Not sure if a supply has changed or what but just.. wasn't the same to us. Felt more like Walmart chicken tenders versus the wings we remembered.
The entire environment was very... I just did not feel welcome as a guest/customer in the restaurant but as a nuisance or a pest that makes things worse.
While waiting for our food, the server was smack talking at the bar. Saying how it's impossible to keep good staff and how it's impossible to find anyone to hire - no one wants to work, etc etc. ... Just killing the vibe even more ..
When it came time to pay, I asked for the check. I got my card ready while waiting like any decent human does, but the waitress came by and just grabbed my card and did not provide a receipt prior... Needless to say that was very rude & unprofessional in my and my party's minds.
Needless to say, this place has been better, and it's very saddening to see a place...
Read moreOk so we ordered online in the parking lot at the establishment after we had a hurricane. It was the only restaurant open besides waffle house so I expected for it to be busy. However, the website said it would be ready in 20 min... I went in after 25 min. I sat at the hostess stand for 5 min before she finally told me I needed to go to the bar to receive my order. I'm in the food and beverage industry so I was trying to be as patient as possible. I stood there for about 30 min till amy the bartender got out of the weeds and finally acknowledged me and said let me go check on your order. But she didnt even ask for a name?! She came back out and took an order for a lady sitting at the bar. I waited another 20 to 30 min. The lady's food came out and I still didnt have mine. Other people with to go orders that were behind me all got theirs. Still waiting... the table behind me who watched me wait as long as I did said "you've got more patience than I do". Had I not already paid I would've totally left. Finally I got the hostess to see, I've been here forever and can you at least give me an ETA on when it'll be ready for 3 burgers and a chicken tender. Finally she asked a name for the order. I wish I remembered her name because she finally got to the bottom of it. They lost my ticket! How long was I supposed to stand there till amy gave me the time of day? It took 2 1/2 hours for me to order and walk with my food. The kitchen manager came out finally and told me what was up and was the only one to apologize. I'm not even mad at him or the restaurant. I'm mad at the bartender for the lack of respect and communication. Food was...
Read moreI have been here a few times, it's okay. The food isn't bad, but the service leaves room to be desired. Here is an example from tonight. I ordered burger, wife ordered grilled chicken. I ordered my burger medium. Food comes, burger well done... no worries, I'm not picky, but wife's chicken comes out pretty rare. We bring to attention of server--this is negative point one. It's cool the chicken was undercooked, it happens, but for a party of two, just make the entire ticket again fresh. At least offer this option, so one person doesnt have to eat or let their food get cold. Wife and I split burger, but what if she didn't like what I ordered? Chicken comes out 10ish minutes later, fully cooked. After dinner is over, we get bill, chicken dish not comped. For me, that's negative point number two. Im not after free meals, but we ordered drinks and an apps well. Maybe they break even tonight, but gestures like this bring customers back. Either of those two could have canceled eachother out if handled correctly, but together both are negatives in my book.
How you handle kitchen mistakes is really food service 101, it's not difficult. It's how you get customers to return. For example, Chick Fil A down the street forgot a chicken sandwich last week. We called, and they sent us an envelope full of gift cards for sandwiches, fries, and milk shakes. This is above and beyond, and wasn't necessary but that ensures they keep us as repeat customers, not once or twice a year.
Overall, the food is good, but the above is a data point to our...
