I enjoy dining alone at restaurants or cafes and then bringing my family to try the place later. I had high expectations for the omelette bar because of all the rave reviews, but my experience was subpar.
Let’s start with the food: I ordered the Chicken Lil, which cost around $14—a reasonable price for the area. I also got an iced caramel mocha for about $7. The food itself was good, but by the time it arrived, the chicken was lukewarm, and the biscuit fell apart the moment I cut into it. The menu had a lot of options, and everything looked delicious. I would have ordered more if it weren’t for the service.
Environment: The restaurant itself is beautiful! It’s family/college-friendly, and I loved the overall vibe and aesthetic of the place.
Service: I sat down around 9:40 a.m. and didn’t receive my food until 10:30. After sitting for ten minutes, I still hadn’t been acknowledged. I was working on my iPad, so maybe I looked busy, but I had to flag down the waitress because I hadn’t even been offered water or a drink. I noticed other people who sat down around the same time were already being served and had their drinks. The waitress apologized and mentioned they were understaffed, so I tried to be understanding.
I placed my order for food and a drink. My drink took about 10 minutes to arrive, and the food took nearly 40 minutes. After dropping off my drink, the waitress didn’t check on me again. I couldn’t even flag her down because she never passed by my booth. I considered paying for my drink and leaving after waiting 30 minutes for my food. The kitchen has an open concept, so I could see the food sitting under the warmers during my wait. I noticed my order had been under the warmer for almost 10 minutes, and by the time it arrived, it was only warm.
The waitress didn’t check on me until it was time for the bill. I did notice her being attentive to other customers, so maybe because I was a solo diner, she thought I didn’t need as much attention. Still, I was disappointed. I wasn’t offered water or a refill for my drink, and I wanted to ask for syrup but never got the chance. Because of the lack of service, I didn’t leave a tip.
Suggestions for solo diners: If you’re dining alone, I suggest sitting at the bar or ordering takeout, as you might get served faster than sitting at a booth. I do recommend trying the place because the food was good, but the service left a lot to be desired. I probably won’t return alone, but I might consider takeout...
Read moreGreat all around breakfast spot, with delightfully good food, and a must eat if you're in the area.
I've eaten and the Omlet Bar multiple times with my family of four and we love it every time we go. We watched the progress of the construction, eagerly awaiting it to open, so we were glad to pay them multiple visits once it opened.
I've had several items off the menu but my favorite is the Chicken & Waffle Flight. You get three small waffles with three different toppings and that house gravy on the side. It's a delight that must be eaten if you like all things waffles. Nothing but goodness to eat. Nuff said.
I've also had the RATATOUILLE FRITTATA which also tastes great. It's great as a vegetarian (I'm meat lover as well) dish with all the fresh vegetables. this dish is especially good if you're not looking for anything heavy but you want something good to eat.
The accompanying sides are also okay. The house potatoes are good but not great. Like many restaurants they look like they finish their potatoes in a high heat convection oven. I like my breakfast potatoes cooked all the way in a skillet or griddle. convection oven cooked potatoes tend to dry out a bit. These are still worth having though.
I've also built my own custom omlet from the Omlet bar. My wife has had Lobster Benedict and she loved it. My two girls have had the french toast and they rave about that and the pancakes which were a hit.
We only ever eat breakfast here. I'm sure by the time we're done we would have eaten the entire breakfast menu and loved it.
The staff is very friendly and helpful with helping you choose items off the menu. We've only gotten great service every time we've gone here. You can't go wrong with this place.
My one small knock on this place is that it can get a lil crowded and to me it's not acceptable to have open tables in a restaurant when there are 20 min wait times. They need to open those tables up and stretch the staff more or higher more people to work the busy hours like Sunday after church.
Great food, excellent service, at competitive prices that's good...
Read moreService by Pricila was outstanding. Then it starts to slowly go downhill from here. I'll start with the prices which I understand need to cover all expenses and overhead and make a profit. They aren't terrible and comparable to other restaurants that serve breakfast, brunch, and lunch only in the area. The overpriced markup in my opinion is the add-on of a pancake or French Toast. $5 for a single pancake or one slice of French Toast (one slice of bread cut in half) is steep. Especially when I got the French Toast and it was fair to mostly sub-par at best one piece of bread cooked enough to brown the egg wash then a sprinkle of powdered sugar to be served room temperature without butter wasn't impressive at all. Also, if you are going to name your restaurant Omelet Bar(which I would honestly look into changing or teaching your cooks how to prepare an Omelet.) As the one that I had didn't have filling from end to end as you would expect from an Omelet also cooked more well done on the product interior as it was just cooked fully and masked by the presentation. Then are your breakfast potatoes which are a joke and seem to come out of a bag and just fried. As they can't be homemade at all not the way they are cut with lines that are too perfect for each piece and the fact that they have no flavor unless you add a lot of salt and pepper and dip in ketchup or hot sauce. Let's not leave out the toasts that come with the meal that was toasted but either barely buttered or was just dry (I got the sourdough) I wasn't sure if it was buttered at all I'm impressed that it was a mystery. Kudos to the cooks for creating a mystery food. Finally, there's the atmosphere which is geared towards the local UCF color vibe and theme and that's fine and great to support the University but it's time for an update. The stained ceiling, the various lights that need to be replaced, and various upholstery rips and tears are just another part of poor overall quality control. For a single location privately owned restaurant TLC isn't a bad thing...
