We had a little extra time before our jet ski rental and were looking for a place to cool off and enjoy some ice cream. While Pete’s Sweet Treats wasn’t the easiest to find, it was an INCREDIBLE find. I don’t think I’ve ever left a Google review, but I felt compelled to do so this time. Our entire family agreed that Pete’s ice cream was probably the best, creamiest and most flavorful we had ever eaten. The experience was even more enjoyable because of the passion he had for all of his concoctions. It reminded me of sampling wine from a master vintner.
Pete’s shop also serves as a pizza restaurant. While we hadn’t planned to order pizza, we ended up ordering two bubbling hot slices made to order that were WAY better than the expensive “authentic” pizza from an Italian restaurant in downtown Sarasota.
Food critic Anthony Bourdain always said that he knew he was in for an incredible meal when the chef was passionate about how great his/her creations were. We felt that passion as we learned about all the flavors Pete was creating and experimenting with. We hope his shop grows and thrives — and even if his place is a bit tricky to find, it’s worth seeking out. Thanks to both Pete and Delaney for their great service and making the experience a highlight of our...
Read moreMy review is from my one experience meeting the owner, Pete (maybe not his name, but for the purpose of this review that’s what he’s going by.) Perhaps Pete enjoys being a control freak, because that’s sure how he acts when kids under the age of 5 come into his ice cream shop. I ordered a single scoop of one flavor in a dish and a single scoop of another flavor in a cake cone. The employee scooped single scoops of each flavor, then Pete came out from the back room and rang me out. Pete would not “split” the order into two, because he doesn’t “do splits”. One of the kids getting ice cream was 2 years old and according to Mr Pete, she should have to have 2 full scoops and couldn’t split an order with her 4 year old sister. It’s the exact same amount of ice cream but Pete charged us full price on each. I’ve read other reviews from people with similar experiences with Power Trip Pete. What a guy!
Edit: read Pete’s reply below and judge for yourself. They clearly state each order gets two scoops. I got two scoops, one in a cone and one in a dish. Same amount of ice cream but charged for two. Pete was the one that checked me out and he got lippy with me about it. I’d avoid the store given his attitude and how he...
Read moreIf you're looking for a place to satisfy your sweet tooth while on vacation, look no further than Pete's Sweet Treats and Italian Ice. From the moment we walked in, we felt like we were among friends. Pete greeted us warmly and chatted with us like we were old pals.
What's more, the ice cream and Italian ice at Pete's are simply amazing. Everything is homemade, and you can tell. The flavors are rich and delicious, and the texture is smooth and creamy. We especially loved the Italian ice, which was so refreshing on a hot summer day.
But what really sets Pete's apart is the friendly atmosphere and excellent service. Pete clearly takes pride in his work and cares about his customers. He even took the time to tell us about his homemade treats and share some of his favorite flavors with us.
All in all, we had a wonderful experience at Pete's Sweet Treats and Italian Ice. We highly recommend this place to anyone who loves good ice cream and friendly service. If you're in the area, be sure to stop by and say hello to Pete - you won't be...
