Sophie’s Sarasota — Restaurant in Florida

The average rating is due to the lack of management oversight and uneven service. We were a party of four and all agreed the quality of the food was very good. Unfortunately, we did not have a good lunch experience overall because one of our choices (the burger) had to be sent back due to medically related dietary restrictions that were clearly communicated to our server at the outset. That led to our party not eating our food at the same time which is awkward and takes away from the experience. When the burger finally came out, it did so without the accompaniment (French fries), My party all ordered a fresh set of drinks to keep me company. In order for us to do so, we had to catch the attention of another person (not our server). We went on to dessert, tea and coffee….even this was not smooth because the one of two desserts originally on offer, apparently ran out, as informed by our server. The meal came out close to $250.00 dollars and we left an overly generous 19% tip. At no time, were we offered any kind of monetary restitution/accommodation, We were offered what I would characterize as perfunctory and un genuine, laissez-faire apologies for their service failure. All restaurants can make mistakes, it is how they are handled that matters. Dietary restrictions for medical reasons, need to be taken...

I previously had this place as 5 star. We have been there 5 times since Christmas and it was always 5 star from service to food to drinks. Today I went and had to lower the rating to 3 stars :( . Previously the food was so good and today it was very strange. Things had an off taste and anything fried was VERY deep fried to the point of being DARK brown and dripping grease. Sadly I had the Fried soft crab , the truffle fries and an appetizer of hush puppies. Everything was not so great ,because the weird off taste and the grease. It's usually lightly browned and not dark and greasy. My companion also ordered his usual which was not fried anything but said it just tasted so-so today. Service was still top notch as usual and the bar drinks were superb. UPDATE again. This place started out 5 stars. Then dropped to 3 stars because the food started being definitely not as good. Truly a remarkable dining experience. Our waitress was just superb. We sat outside and like most places we weren't forgot about out there. She was attentive and we lacked nothing. The menu is simple which means everything they make can shine. We started with the avocado fries and bread basket. The bread basket had a wide array of different breads. A sourdough, 5 seeded bread and a crunchy pita bread. All divine. The bread in addition came with 3 different dipping sauces. The avocado fries were crispy and melted in my mouth when I bit in. Next up was the burger. This is why I decided to try Sophies. The burger was truly remarkable. Burger was on a soft toasted brioche bun. Toppings included bacon jam, roasted tomato, cheddar and shoestring onions. Cooked and seasoned perfectly. Would eat this burger once a week if I could! Truffle fries on the side was a great addition. No low notes during this meal. Ended with dessert...
