2/1/2020: BRAND NEW SERVING SIZE POLICY!!..MUCH LESS ICE CREAM FOR SAME PRICE! DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND GO ELSEWHERE!
So we've been to Sweet Melissa's many times as we live nearby, and have always been satisfied with both the service and ice cream. Not so tonight!! After reading some of the more recent reviews..seems like others are sharing my opinion..Sweet Melissa's service and products are definitely on a downward trend.. 🤔 I ordered a two scoop dish of ice cream from a girl who I believe was a new employee. Once she had scooped the ice cream she went to a SCALE and weighed it! She then proceeded to remove a smidgeon of ice cream (teaspoon max) and return it to the pail in the cooler. I was shocked! Definitely 'takes the stars out of your eyes' watching someone take away some of your ice cream before you even got to hold it.. 🙄 Like every other kid..I then took a look at the two scoop cups given to the 'kids' on either side of me..and noticed that ALL of their's were mounded well above the rim of the cup..just like the two scoop cups I had ordered and received many times before! 😕 When it was my turn to pay I mentioned to the woman at the register (who seemed a bit older and I assumed to be the manager) that it didn't seem like good business to weigh some servings and not others..and especially makes NO sense to take out the smidgeon of ice cream that was supposedly 'over the weight', leaving a customer feeling dissatisfied before even tasting the ice cream. The cashier had literally nothing to say in response other than, "That will be $10.50.". Now I was really upset, as that is a ridiculous amount to pay for less than a small cup of ice cream, and said so, and was again ignored by the cashier, who took my card, rang up the purchase, and asked me to sign. Not happy. Please note that I was polite and calm at all times. Once I got outside I told my friend what had happened and he was shocked we had just spent $10.50 for what looked like a regular single scoop of ice cream in a small dish! I was upset enough that I decided to go back into the store and check the prices on the wall. $5.25 for two scoops. Not only did I receive a SUB PAR PORTION OF ICE CREAM, I had been double charged for it!! Please see the PRE-EATEN/UNTOUCHED PIC of the two scoop ice cream I purchased for $10.50! When I pointed out the error to the cashier, and at the same time AGAIN pointing out the descrepancy between my serving and all the other two scoop servings, she tried to justify the price by saying sugar cones cost more etc.. Finally a younger woman (with blonde hair tied up) informed the cashier what the issue was I was trying to get resolved, and mentioned to me that weighing the ice cream was some sort of new store policy. For some reason only the new employee that served me was following the new policy..just my luck. One of the employees stated, "1 scoop is supposed to be 5oz and 2 scoops are supposed to be 7oz"..? How does that make sense?! Sigh. After all of that..the cashier handed me $5.25 cash (and punched my frequent flyer card) and went on to the next person in line. Not so much as an apology!? You would think they would offer to give me a credit for an ice cream another time, or would refund the full $10.50 for the trouble I was put through..something. I left the store feeling cruddy and RIPPED OFF..having paid $5.25 for 2/3 or less of the ice cream I received for the same price from the same store a few days earlier. 👎 If this is their new policy..that 2 scoops of ice cream for $5.25 will not even break the top plane of a small styrofoam ice cream cup.. I recommend you go elsewhere. There are plenty of other ice cream vendors in the nearby area..or you can get a 1/2 gallon of Breyers at regular...
Read moreAbsolutely HORRIBLE experience. Please do not come here if you are looking to have a pleasant experience with friends and stopping by to grab ice cream. 3 girlfriends and I stopped by this evening to grab ice cream and immediately the manager was giving us attitude the minute we walked in. The entire time we were picking our ice cream she was rolling her eyes and glaring at us. The shop was completely empty. In fact, we were told it was a slow day, we thought we were doing something nice helping out a local small business, so we got our ice cream and sat in the back corner of the shop. My friends and I were all conversing eating our ice cream and the manager told one of the sweet employees to come tell us to be quiet. We were pissed so we decided to leave the shop and finish our conversations in our car outside. As the manager was closing she saw us in our car all the way across the parking lot and walked all the way up with attitude, made us roll down our windows and told us we had to leave the parking lot. We are 4 sweet girls just catching up, grabbing ice cream for the evening and this old woman was looking to start something with us the second we walked in. This was our first and definitely our last time at Sweet Melissa’s. 3 of us had been so excited to try out the place and we were completely shocked. Our night was ruined. The two sweet younger employees were very sweet but the old, rude manager ruined our night. Do NOT come here, especially if your looking to come with friends. No wonder there was no one...
Read moreI will give this place 4 stars because the sweet treats are delicious. I am a local who frequents this place. A Few visits ago we were given a punch card when filled up your given a free item up to $6. So we ordered our two pies and coffee. The bill came to $13. I handed the employee my full punched card. After paying and leaving a tip, I asked the employee what I received for free since my punch card was full if the bill was $13? She said, " your coffee". To that I replied, " why wasn't one of the pieces of pie free?" And she explained to me that she had to give me the least expensive item on the bill for free..... But neglected to tell us that when ordering and I presented the card. I would've never ordered the coffee had I known the pie would've been free. And while a free $6 piece of pie isn't going g to make or break someone but it just irritated me enough to write this review! That's not an example of good customer service. Or is it they have so many transient people / vacationers that they are just out to make a buck and not establish a repoire with locals. Just seems...
