3 stars is a very generous rating for this establishment. Please take a few moments to read the negative reviews before going here. I wish I had, as they tell a very clear picture of what to expect.
Two friends and myself went here, and I was really wanting a stout or a porter. They had neither. You can see in one of my pics that they were also out of several food items. So I settle for a dark lager which wasn't bad, just not what I wanted.
We ordered dinner. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries. The burger looked like it belonged in a happy meal (quite small), and the amount of fries was just embarrassing not very much...half of what I would expect in a similar establishment. This tiny meal was $18.00. It did taste good, and the fries were crunchy and also good.
One of my friends ordered some kind of a kabob looking piece of meat. Picture attached. His meal was $22.00, and as you see in the picture, it was just a kabob with 4 little miniature pickles and some onions. Really?
My other friend ordered a chicken kabob...also $22.00 (I believe). When it arrived, she started to eat it and suddenly got a sour face. She realized that the middle was raw, so she couldn't eat it. She asked the waiter to send it back, and within a couple of moments, what I presume was a manager came to our table and said "we checked this chicken and it's the right temperature, it is not raw". So basically calling my friend a liar. She was very hungry and when they asked if she'd like another, she said no and that she'd prefer a burger instead, thinking that if it was also undercooked, at least she could eat it.
Because she was so hungry, and both my other friend and I were still hungry for our very small portions of food, we ordered a plate of fries for the table thinking it would fill us up a bit. You can see in the picture that I provided how small that portion was, also costing $6.00 USD.
After waiting another 20 minutes, we asked where her hamburger was, and they said that they didn't hear her when she said she wanted a burger, so nothing was on its way. So they said they would have one right away. We waited another 20 minutes and since we were already late for a previous engagement by this time, decided to leave, and of course as we are getting up from the table, her hamburger arrives. We had to decline it because now we didn't have enough time to eat it.
This place makes the customers pay for the fees if you use a credit card. Thankfully,no tip was automatically included in our bill. We did tip the waiter (Jesus) because he was very kind and attentive and apologetic throughout the night. We were not charged for the raw chicken dish or the late hamburger. So, 3 beers, a small kabob, a small burger with a handful of fries, and a small plate of fries, was $85.00 USD.
I have no problem spending money on good food and good portions, but when I pay a higher price, I expect to be full when I leave and the experience to be great. I would never expect a manager to come to my table and try to "prove me wrong" when I tell them that something is undercooked and unfit to eat. Would I ever return to this establishment? No. We had to go and eat fast food after spending $85.00 USD because we were still very hungry. It's a shame, because this place...
Read moreAlright, so here’s how our visit to this spot went down.
We showed up and were greeted super nicely. The host asked where we’d prefer to sit, and we chose outside. Since there was a UFC fight on, they gave us one of the best tables with a great view of the screen. That was already a solid start.
We started with some fried breadsticks and also ordered dried fish. I went with a burger, and of course, we both grabbed some beers. Atmosphere-wise, the place was awesome—really cool vibe, stylish decor, lots of TVs for sports. No complaints there.
The food was pretty solid too. The breadsticks were really good—if it were up to me, I’d add a touch more garlic and maybe a bit of finely shredded cheese on top, but still, they hit the spot. The dried fish was way too salty for my taste, but my buddy actually really liked it. Now the burger? I’d say it was too good. Seriously, check the video—melted cheese oozing all over, looked and tasted amazing.
I had a Hazy IPA, my friend got a lager. Both were great. Bonus points for the frozen mugs—beer stayed cold longer and looked super refreshing.
Now, about the service. Everything was 5/5 until it came time to pay. We asked for the bill, and when they brought it, we handed over a card without even looking. But then they brought it back with only two slips to sign—usually you get three: the itemized receipt, customer copy, and merchant copy. We didn’t get the itemized one, which was sketchy. The total also seemed higher than what we remembered ordering, so we figured maybe the tip was already included (which is pretty common in Miami now).
We asked a different server (not ours) and he said nope, tips weren’t included and we could add one. That made us even more confused. So we went to our original server, and she confirmed the tip was actually already included. So we just paid the total and didn’t leave anything extra.
Honestly, that whole part really soured the experience. First, not getting a full breakdown of our bill, and second, another server straight-up giving us wrong info—or just lying. Not cool. Management should really train the staff better on how to handle these situations. Because the food and vibe were great, but that part left a bad taste.
Would I go back? Maybe. But I’d definitely double-check my...
Read moreAs a former Tuna's patron, I really want to like this place, but after two visits, it's still very, very difficult to do so. On the plus side, the venue is incredible. They transformed a poorly maintained area into a beautiful indoor/outdoor convertible restaurant/entertainment spot with lots of seating, multiple retractable roofs, and more TVs than you can find in Brandsmart. It's a gorgeous spot. Also, they have live music which has been top notch. Really good artists. And yes, there are a lot of beers. Unfortunately, they didn't have any of the beers that I wanted from the menu either time I visited, but they did have a lot more. And when they do have food items actually available from the sort of confusing mix of choices on the menu, it tastes good. On the minus side, the service is abysmal. Even when there are only a few tables with people, you can't find the servers. And when you do see them, they're having conversations with each other or on their phones. (They do have nice personalities.) Food takes FOREVER to come from the kitchen, and you kind of have to trip someone to get them to stop by and refresh drinks. I think I met maybe the manager or owner who, after I challenged that my bill was higher than the cost of the food that I ordered, that they add a 15% entertainment fee to checks. I had been there for over an hour with no entertainment other than MMA on the many, many TVs. I explained to him that he shouldn't be charging hidden fees to customers but he didn't seem to think it was a problem. He was very nice in encouraging me to stay for the music that I had already, apparently, paid for, but I had to decline. We were kind of hungry at that point and didn't want to wait longer for food.
As I said, I really want to like this place. It seems like it could be a cool spot. But, especially now that the World Cup won't be back for 4 more years, I don't think it's enough to just make a pretty place and hope for the best. I've lived in Miami for a long time and seen many restaurants come and go. I don't know how long this one will last, but I really think they will have a great chance if they just tighten up on the basics. Make good food and drinks, and have really good servers helping you to get it to your...
