Wabi Sabi Thai Restaurant- Merritt Island, FL
1 Star
As I got out of the Big Boy mobile in the parking lot of Wabi Sabi Thai Restaurant in Merritt Island, I was dumbfounded as the building looked just this side of condemned. I mean it. This had to be the biggest dump I have ever seen for an operating dining facility. I was not impressed upon entrance either. The food had better be outstanding as they obviously spent zero money on appearances outside or inside.
After being seated and handed a menu, Jessica approached and introduced herself as my waitress and based on the sour, self-entitled attitude she exuded, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say she is the cookie-cutter Gen Z humanoid. Despite her obviously not wanting to work that day, she took my order for some Green Curry with chicken, an eponymous Wabi Sabi roll and my barometer for this kind of food, a spicy tuna hand roll.
According to the guy sitting next to me with a neck tattoo, this place did serve the bomb food. Based on his conversation with his table mate I was hoping the food to be better than the surroundings. It seemed that Jessica had just gone to drop my order when she returned with my grub.
The Green Curry with chicken was so overcooked the chicken had the consistency of a rubber eraser and tasted like it as well. The curry was void of "curriness" and fell flat on the palate. Moving on to the Wabi Sabi roll I noticed that the Avacado looked to be past its prime (the picture speaks for itself) and one bite confirmed this assumption. The fish was fishy tasting which means it was past its freshness point for being served raw (at least for those with a discerning palate).
The spicy tuna hand roll was prepared in Thai fashion and this is not what it should taste like. The tuna was OK, but it is not prepared like the spicy tuna hand roll found in your traditional Japanese Sushi joint. I am not sure what they use to make it so different, my only guess is the chili paste is the difference as different countries have different takes on this staple of Asian cuisine.
As one may notice there is no picture of the disgusting slop passed off as Green Curry with chicken as I was so upset over the near-swill I was served I forgot to snap one as I hurried the hell out.
The Big Boy says, “while looks can be deceiving, in this case, they're not, the food is as bad as the dump in which it is served. If you are coming off a 10 fast and are about to drop from hunger and see this place, keep going.” Oh, and never trust a food critique from someone with...
Read moreOkay so we went there the other night for takeout we're both tired it was about 45 minutes before your closing time. Order the jalapeno crab stuffed jalapeno appetizer and a beef box teriyaki beef box and a green beef Curry. About 50 bucks they told me to be about 25 minutes. We're back in after 20 minutes had to find somebody to get my food there's a bunch of to go back sitting on the counter and on the stool or bench. We just came and asked me what we had I told her she handed me two bags or three bags and we left drive e is a 20 mi home got home and half the order was not there. They were closed when I tried calling. Call the next day got hold of someone said they were sorry and they'd replace the order that was missing when I ordered came to order my next meal. (They should have comped the whole meal) Batman I traveled an extra 40 miles there and back to get what I paid for and had to buy another appetizer just to get it food was fair beef was tough see she was good. But the green curry beef was coconut soup with very little beef in it and some vegetables and a box...
Read moreA little disappointing for a first visit. Servers were slow to attend to our tables or even get us menus as we sat, but they were quick to run our checks. The thai tea was literally a powder mix (the kind that has the creamer and sugar included in one packet) that they put in hot water and poured over ice. One of the servers seemed a bit defensive of that as she stated this fact. The panang curry my friend got was absolutely bland and watered down. The veggies in it were soggy, and the chicken tasted like it had been just boiled and tossed in the curry last minute. I ordered Pho, and none of the side sauces/spices you are supposed to get were even brought to the table, while another table in the restaurant (most likely a regular couple) were given the utmost attention while ordering the same dish. Mind you, the restaurant was not even that busy when we arrived. The only redeeming factor (the two stars i'm giving) was that the Pho was on point. Good portion, seasoned right, and delicious. Just not worth it enough...
