Hurricane Irma price gouging.
We visited this Waffle House on 9/10, the day before Hurricane Irma affects the area. We drove out to get medicine and noticed that Waffle House was suprisingly open, given that almost every other business on US 192 was closed. We own a small business on 192 ourselves and shut it down because of the storm. We stopped here to eat before heading home to hunker down for Irma.
With that said, something else must be said. Something that will prevent me from visiting any other Waffle House ever again.
Given how busy they were because of the storm, we weren't going to complain about how long we had to wait, or that the order came out incomplete and we had to wait longer, or that the waffles were raw. These are all things I can live with, given the circumstances. However, the following is never acceptable.
When we were ordering from a very limited menu due to the storm (which is also understandable), the three of us at the table simply wanted: "Two eggs, toast, hashbrowns" marked at $4.50. Our waiter, John T., asked us if we wanted sausage or ham. We asked him if it came with the order because they were an a la carte item. He said yes, so we asked for sausage. He then told us the order came with a waffle, which also surprised us (2 eggs, toast, hashbrowns, sausage, and a waffle for $4.50). Before he walked away, I asked him one more time about the price. He said it was $8.50 for the meal, which was not on the menu. I told him it was misleading when he told us it was $4.50 three times. We have no problem paying $8.50 for the meal, but don't be shady with what you're charging - just tell us there's a special meal and the price.
When we got our check, we were charged $37.50 for three meals at $8.50 each and three drinks at $2.00 each (it should be $31.50). There was an extra $4 charge on the check and $2 extra that was just added to the total. I asked John T. about the $4 added charge and he looked confused. He admitted he didn't know how that got on the bill, but said he wrote the check. I asked him to remove it, and he rolled his eyes as if I was bothering him. He crossed off the $37.50 and wrote $33.50. I mentioned the extra $2 on the bill because the bill didn't add up. He didn't seem to care and walked away.
I found a manager, who told me he was in the area to help in a time of need, but that I could address my concerns with him. I recapped the situation, and he asked me how much I should be charged. I told him $31.50, so he crossed off the $33.50 and wrote $28. I thanked him, and he asked if there was anything else. I just shared my concern, in hopes he would address it so other customers don't get gouged as well. He told me it wasn't gouging. I told him that when we are charged more than we are getting, that's gouging. I told him I hoped others during the day were not taken advantage of as well, to which he said it wasn't his store and couldn't account for John's behavior. I told him I would call corporate, while at the same time the regional manager walked up. He asked what the problem was. I told him and he didn't care AT ALL, took the check, and told me to leave. I said I didn't have a problem paying, but he needs to know what happened. He told me that I was no longer welcome and I should leave. Mind you, I already stepped outside to talk to the manager so I was outside the store. The manager blocked the door, pointed towards the parking lot, and told me to leave. I said that I wasn't finished with my meal, and he told me that it didn't matter because I wasn't paying for it. I told him I'd pay for the meal. He once again told me to leave and that I was no longer welcome. I had him get the rest of my party, and we all left.
Yes, that is right ... we were literally kicked out of Waffle House for letting the management know we were being overcharged. Seriously? Is this how to run a business? As I said, never again. Unethical and rude behavior to a guest who is bringing up a legitimate concern is not something I, or anyone else, should put up with. Do not support a company...
Read moreI wish the name of the lady who took my order was on the receipt but my review goes as follows: I ordered a To-Go breakfast plate. The server was very hospitable and quick to attend to me. I was her first customer of her shift. Getting ready to pay, my card was declined. Each day that I step out when I know I'm going to make purchases, I always check my bank card balance before use. I did have sufficient funds to pay for my meal. I asked my server to please hold my ticket while I step outside to call my bank. Bank had me on hold for 40 minutes. I made sure to be by the window so my server could see me and know I'll be coming back in to pay once I'm done with speaking with my bank. My bank has horrible member support! I finally figured out what happened after wasting over 40 minutes and speaking to two different agents who were useless to me. There were transaction posting delays by my bank from two days prior that never reflected on my bank card transaction log which means the amount I saw when I checked my balance on my bank app this morning was inaccurate and made me look silly. I didn't even use my card at all the day before and my bank card activity still couldn't be updated by my bank in a timely manner. What good is a banking institution and app they provide if the information you requested isn't accurate or updated in a timely manner for better account balance tracking? Anyway, I went back in to re-order and pay after I moved additional funds to my card and my server quickly acknowledged me, asked if everything went well and set me up to pay while still having my original ticket and placed my order in to the cooks quickly. She verified that my order was correct. I paid then I stepped outside to calm myself from a disaster of a phone call with my bank. I returned to wait on my order and my server stated she was about to come out and look for me because my food was ready...AWWW! Everything in my To-Go order was put together nicely and everything was prepared well, even my toast. Thank you greatly Ma'am for a great morning breakfast and for placing a smile on my face by setting satisfaction and excellent customer service at the top of your list of priorities where my bank has failed in the area miserably, multiple times in...
Read moreCHOOSE ANOTHER WAFFLE HOUSE AFTER MIDNIGHT! What sucks about this review is that day shift is SO MUCH BETTER and more considerate than what I just experienced (at 12:30am). They are the only reason this is 3 stars and not 1. (Shoutout to DAY CREW tho, yall the MVPs! 👏🏽👏🏽)
I'm visiting the WF that SHARES A PARKING LOT with the hotel I'm staying at. I walk over to get a waffle to take to my room bc I woke up sick and wanted a pickmeup treat. I walk in and Zachary is eating at a back table on his phone. No one else is in the dining room. I sit at the bar and wait. He proceeds to keep eating. A middle aged man comes out the back to approach Zachary when I just so happen to cough and they both happen to notice me. I asked for a waffle to take back to my room and am told I'll be charged a togo fee - mind you I'M STAYING 50 PACES AWAY FROM THIS LOCATION AND I'M SICK!. So I agree to stay in this freezing empty dining room to avoid the almost $3 fee 🙄 I order the pancake and ask for the toppings on the side, mainly bc it was TOO much sugar. When it arrives I restate this and Zachary proceeds to tell me what the toppings are, like its no big deal, when the point was they not be there at all. He"s like "well we can remake it", to which I state its wasteful and keeps me there longer than I even wanted to be in the first place... which ruined my appetite completely. So I left empty handed and more let down than I walked in.
All I wanted was a waffle to make me feel better but instead, I was ignored, informed of a fee to literally walk next door with my food, and my 1 request as THE ONLY CUSTOMER AT THE TIME was not acknowledged or adhered too. Hella disappointing.
Should have gone in the daytime 🤦🏽♀️, but you sure won't catch me in there again at...
