I would give Bacchus House 10 stars if I could. Harry, the bartender made our night!!! Bacchus House also took keeping patrons and staff safe during Covid, very seriously, and they were accommodating and worked to keep everyone safe. Hand sanitizer readily available, everyone masked, tables spread out, wiping things down extra well, etc.
We are working class, and this is the second time we have been to Bacchus House, and I have to say, I truly believe they are one of the best, if not THE best restaurant in Folsom, in terms of offering healthful, local, and fresh ingredients, professional service that is off the charts, and not pretentious in any way, but caring and sincere, and a lovely ambience. Everyone from the Host who greeted us when we arrived, the bus boys who kept us hydrated, and who had adorable personalities and professionalism, and the love the chef puts into each dish is so flipping apparent, and it all contributes to an equally enjoyable social experience as well as culinary experience. We came to celebrate our Anniversary, and came early to enjoy the happy hour at the bar before dinner. This is where we encountered Harry. He was so friendly, intelligent, and down to earth from the moment we sat down, along with making perfect drinks where he did not skimp on the liquor content without going over the top. I tried almost every drink on the Happy hour menu, between the 3 I ordered and sampling my husband's choices too. I had the Aphrodite with the most tasty raspberries in it, the White Linen, which tasted like summer in a fantastic way with cucumber and lime, and also a Moscow mule, that made me certain I would learn to make those at home because it was so good with a lovely ginger beer kick. Fresh herbs and fruit were luxurious. My husband had the infused whisky, which he liked, but I did not care for because of the strong whisky flavor, but that is on me, for a bad experience with whisky in my younger days, lol. My husband also had the Hobo Pilsner, and I sampled that and found it to be a very nice pilsner, more so than most others I have had, and my husband liked it very much, he had several. We also me three other couples over the course of the night, who were lovely to chat with, and the patrons are down to earth too. We moved outside to enjoy our dinner, as the sun was setting. What a lovely evening. My husband had the herb crusted rack of lamb, and I had the King Salmon. Both dishes were beyond amazing, and we enjoyed a first course of the cream of mushroom soup which knocked our socks off---it was creamy, but still with a strong mushroom flavor. I have to say, we don't typically salt our food at home, and when eating out, most food is waaay too salty for us we dub it as being "A-salted." BUT----the chef at Bacchus House does not offend us at all with the salt level, and I know that is a testament to his culinary skills, that he does not have to cling to over salting to get amazing flavor!! And what amazing flavor every single thing we ate/drank had. We finished the night sharing a desert for anniversary. It was the salted caramel bread pudding with ice cream, which Harry brought out on a platter that sent us happy anniversary greetings written in chocolate, with a raspberry coulis heart and beautiful, edible flowers. We ate it all, scraping the coulis and chocolate with our spoonfuls of bread pudding. It was the perfect ending to an amazing evening. It is a bit pricey for our working class income, and something we can afford for special occasions. But honestly, we eat at home the way they source ingredients, and I understand the quality which makes the experience at BH so amazing is not cheap, and neither are the years of experience and love the chef imparts through his creations. It's so worth it, if you have the means. If we did or do have the means, we would definitely come more often---you cannot go wrong. Thanks, Bacchus House, we are going to try to plan to come back for the holidays, as Harry assured us, it would an experience...
Read moreI've heard a lot of rave reviews from friends of how great this place was supposed to be. So this past Saturday (5/24/14) I went in after church, for a birthday dinner. When we first walked in we were greeted by a gentleman at the door who asked if we had reservations, which I didn't. He said that wouldn't be a problem and asked if we wanted to eat out on the patio, or inside. Since it was 90+, I opted for us to eat inside. I saw that there were PLENTY of empty tables, and the occupancy appeared to be between approximately 10-20%. We were given water to drink, and a basket of bread. Approximately 10 minutes later, an individual who I guess was the bus boy, asked if we wanted another basket of bread. After having sat there for approximately 15-20 minutes, we still weren't asked if we wanted anything to drink, nor had any waiter come to our table to ask us what we wanted or to inform us of what the daily special was. I noticed that there were some tables being served, however, I also noticed that a couple who had been seated before I got there, also had their menus on their table, and they also only had water and a bread basket on their table. After have sat for 20 minutes, I observed a couple of ladies get seated at a table that was 2 tables to my left. Just as they sat down, a waiter was immediately at their table, asking them what they wanted to drink, and I overheard him telling them what the daily special was. I'd had enough of the waiting, and that was the straw that broke the camels back on my patience. I got up to leave and noticed the other couple who had also been sitting there waiting for service also got up to leave. We both commented that we felt disrespected that we had waited so long for service, and the 2 ladies who had just walked in, were immediately given service. I don't know if we weren't being served due to some unknown dress code policy, or what was going on. However, the lady who I was with was wearing a dress, and I was wearing a nice pair of shorts and shirts that I'd worn to church. This was to be a birthday dinner for the lady who I was with. If 20 minutes plus was going to be how long I had to wait to even being asked if I wanted something to drink, I definitely didn't want to wait to see how long it was going to take to get our food. As I was walking out the door, a worker did ask me if something was wrong. I told him that I'd been sitting there for at least 20 minutes and hadn't even been asked what we wanted to drink, and that when I saw the 2 ladies come in and immediately got service, I'd had enough. The extent of his concern was to shrug his shoulder and say he was sorry. I will not recommend this restaurant, however, I will be glad to let others know how BAD the service is. The only reason they got 1 star was because there isn't an option...
Read moreI found it. THE WORLD'S BEST CALAMARI. Their calamari is light, crisp but tender, never greasy. (I'm a fish lover and have been disappointed with greasy oily calamari so many times in other restaurants.) The deep fried lemon on the side is also delicious with it and even better with sauce and shredded cabbage on the bottom. Their salad was also tasty with authentic dressing and deliciously pickled red onion. We ordered other seafood appetizers and main fish plates as well... tuna, clams, crab cakes, salmon and halibut. Me, fish lover, loved them all. I even ate the last juice of them with some bread. My 3 yo son ate a little bit of everything and he finished his plate with happy full tummy. I'm not a dessert person but chocolate cake was amazing, too and I even finished it after eating so much for dinner. Not too sweet (which I love) but rich and flavorful. Everything is organic and I can tell they really care about all the ingredients they use. They said all meats are organic grass fed. I'll have to try Rib Eye Steak next time... I didn't try wine today since I was with my kid but I definitely will next time. Service was super. All of them were really friendly and kind, helping us choosing what to order. It was October so they did fun & scary halloween decorations. I heard that they also have beautiful decoration for Christmas, so I'll have to come back to enjoy that. Bathroom was very clean, by the way. CONS : The only thing I can think of is... I was dining outside and...
